The VP Sustainability is responsible for developing and operationalizing the global sustainability strategy and standards for Freeman. This role will partner across our lines of business to minimize Freemans carbon footprint and drive innovative solutions that support a net zero carbon future. They will represent Freeman and our sustainability efforts internally and externally and will help drive forward on our commitment to achieve net zero by 2050 or sooner, with an interim target to reduce global GHG emissions by 50% by 2030. This position will serve as the subject matter expert on the most sustainable practices for events, consulting with sales teams and clients. They will provide expert guidance on evolving sustainability reporting requirements across the various geographies in which we operate.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build and implement a sustainability strategy that enables Freeman to accelerate forward on our goal to achieve a net zero carbon future and advances our industry leadership position

  • Partner across our lines of business to deliver innovative solutions that align with our strategy

  • Collaborate with partners, suppliers, and customers to drive change across the value chain

  • Develop metrics and KPIs to measure and report on our sustainability performance

  • Measure and track Scope 1, 2, and 3 green house gas emissions according to industry best practice

  • Publish an annual Sustainability report that positively advances Freemans brand through its sustainability programs

  • Oversee a cross-functional team responsible for corporate sustainability commitments, reporting, internal and external partnerships, and investments in initiatives which help progress our net zero carbon goals

  • Build and manage relationships with strategically important external partners to stay informed on emerging trends, standards, and issues that may impact the business and wider industry

  • Build external community networks and communicate as the face of Freemans sustainability program with our clients, suppliers, special interest groups, government agencies, etc.

  • Stay informed of legislation and industry standards and trends to develop and align sustainability strategy that is current

  • Stay informed of competitive offerings to adjust our products and services or messaging accordingly

  • Research and recommend initiatives by developing business plans to support budgeting, plans for implementation and evaluation metrics

Education & Experience

  • 15+ years experience in sustainability with proven track record of building and operationalizing sustainability strategies across businesses

  • Strategically minded and commercially astute with a proven capacity to translate information and ideas into actionable plans

  • A credible thought leader experienced at engaging with and communicating to key internal and external stakeholders, across a variety of initiatives and industry forums

  • Experience communicating to audiences with the willingness to represent the companys interests at the highest levels

  • Experience anticipating future trends across the industry to influence, create and drive strategic impact, engagement and communication

  • Strong internal collaboration skills and proven experience working across multiple teams within a matrix organization

  • Proven experience designing meaningful goals and KPIs to measure sustainability performance

  • Must have sound knowledge of corporate, social, environmental, governance and sustainability regulatory and reporting requirements

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

LEED AP, CMP, CMM or other sustainability and event industry certifications, licenses and registrations preferred

Travel Requirements

Travel 25% to 50%
