.This position directs the Spiritual Care Department in providing the highest quality pastoral care to patients, families, and staff, ensuring that the department provides holistic, interdisciplinary care, and manages and leads faith community engagement.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides oversight, guidance, and direct pastoral and spiritual care to patients, family members, associates, physicians, volunteers, and others according to the standards of the Association for Professional Chaplains.
- Directs the activities of Chaplains and other Associates as assigned; monitors performance and clarifies work expectations, clinical assignments, and assists with goal setting; promotes cooperation among individuals and groups.
- Develops and implements processes through recruitment, orientation, training, education, and evaluation to ensure that the competence of all staff members is assessed, maintained, improved, and demonstrated throughout their employment.
- Plans and develops working relationships with local congregations.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Theology, Divinity, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry, Biblical Studies, Religious Studies, Pastoral Care, and Counseling is required; Master of Divinity (M. Div.) strongly preferred. Doctoral degree in related field preferred, but not required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Five (5) years of experience as a full-time chaplain required; healthcare chaplaincy experience strongly preferred.
- Five (5) years leadership experience in pastoral ministries such as, but not limited to: pastor, associate pastor, youth pastor, counselor, or ministry leader preferred.
- Five (5) years of leadership experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
- Must have and maintain Ecclesiastical Endorsement.
- Prefer Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) from any accepted certifying organization (APC, NACC, ACPE, SCA, ACCC, NAVAC).
- Ordained clergy preferred.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Skilled in verbal and written communication.
- Ability to build and sustain interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to listen, understand, and minister to the specific spiritual needs of persons in crisis.
- Knowledge of congregational and denominational structures.
- Knowledge of community health resources.
- Functional knowledge of the religious principles of major faiths.
- Ability to reflect theologically on institutional concerns.
- Knowledge of organizational strategies and operational objectives.
- Skilled in coaching, counseling, and developing others.
- Knowledge of management principles, processes, and procedures.
