Position Overview


The Building Automation Specialist is responsible for executing and managing Chinook's Implementation projects, focusing on building automation systems and mechanical systems. This position will report to a Program Manager or Business Team leader for project delivery functions and assist in business development tasks such as generating fee proposals. This is a client-facing role requiring significant client interaction and the coordination and management of both internal and external resources to deliver project expectations, deadlines, and financial expectations. This position will direct field personnel, subcontractors, and other technical support staff as needed. Different project functional areas of expertise may include BAS Design, Design-Build, Renovation, Retro-fit, and modification of building BAS, HVAC, SCADA, Electrical, and Energy Management Systems. Duties also include scheduling, document preparation, inspections and testing, report generation, problem resolution, quality assurance, and assisting in the development of sales opportunities.


Responsibilities



  • Design, review, estimate, and purchase BAS and Automation systems, related components, and incorporate them into Energy Solution projects, or on a standalone basis.

  • Negotiate with other project managers for required personnel technical resources from within the company.

  • Develop and apply risk identification and management tools applicable to the project type and complexity.

  • Ensure BAS systems comply with client design requirements.

  • Liaise with project stakeholders (Building Owners, Contractors, Architects, Engineers, and management) on an ongoing basis.

  • Apply Chinook Systems engineering standards as well as industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, BCxA) to ensure compliance with codes and project quality delivery.

  • Manage project expectations with project team members and other stakeholders.

  • Utilize open BAS protocols and communications (e.g., BACnet, LON, MODBUS, Ethernet, Web-Services, HTML) to achieve client BAS requirements.

  • Plan, schedule, and track project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.

  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.

  • Prepare and review BAS Automation designs, drawings, bills of materials, diagrams, and graphics.

  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and develop contingency plans.

  • Build, develop, and grow business relationships vital to the success of the team, including suppliers, subcontractors, and teaming partners.

  • Program control systems from Sequence of Operation.


Skills



  • Punctual, reliable, able to work independently and maintain workflow.

  • Ability to prioritize work and display sound judgment.

  • Ability to effectively interact at all levels of an organization.

  • Effective communication with high profile customers.

  • Experience, knowledge, or training in Microsoft Networks, HTML, Ethernet/IP, and cybersecurity.

  • Demonstrated experience with HVAC Control, BAS, Energy Management systems, and software.

  • Highly proficient with a PC including Microsoft Applications and project management applications/packages (MS Project and other risk management tools).

  • Experience with MS Visio is strongly preferred but not required.

  • Strong programming, graphics, and integration skills.


Certifications



  • Bachelor's degree required in engineering or equivalent combination of education and 7 or more years of continuous experience performing Building Automation project management of BAS implementation projects.

  • Niagara Certification preferred.


Other



  • U.S. Citizenship Required.

  • Must be able to pass Security screening, background check, and hold appropriate Govt. clearances.

  • Must be a strong supporter and advocate of the Chinook Systems Vision, Values, and Work Philosophies – and demonstrate this in daily actions and interactions.


Physical Requirements



  • Travel to and from local and remote project locations up to 50% of the time.

  • Walking construction sites with uneven surfaces and in dust-generating environments.

  • Climbing stairs and ladders, carrying/operating equipment up to 25 lbs.

  • Working near electrical and mechanical building equipment and systems.
