Description

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission aligned Engineering Specialist to support our Employment and Technology Center.

The Engineering Specialist will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

The Engineering Specialist will join our team that will provide a structured and engaging introduction to the active use of engineering to our high school students. The individual will be able to expose students to designing engineering experiments through a designed curriculum and through a series of projects designed by the specialist.

  • Create lesson plans that are centered around student learning
  • The ability to teach students effectively.
  • Ability to engage students in an educational setting.

What you’ll do

  • Experience working directly with 15- 20 High school students exploring the fundamentals of Engineering.
  • Design a curriculum based on Engineering technical skills and formulate plans with diagrams, drawings, and calculations.
  • Prepare Engineering educational-based trips, and special events, and invite guest speakers to speak about Engineering.
  • Ability to teach the students to evaluate and integrate engineering systems.

Schedule

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings.
