ROLE OVERVIEW
The Data and Evaluation Specialist will be responsible for accurately cleaning, transforming, and processing raw data in preparation for analysis. The role requires an understanding of data management and analysis in the context of student achievement and program evaluation. Strong attention to detail is essential to ensure data is securely handled and processed in accordance with organization, local, state, and federal requirements.
The Data and Evaluation Specialist should have experience in one or more of the following areas: working with large datasets; database management; data warehousing; extract, transform, load (ETL); or SQL. In this role, the Data and Evaluation Specialist will work closely with the National Director, Operational Effectiveness.

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

Data Acquisition
- Oversee data collection from district partners and internal teams
- Coordinate initial data transfer setup and monthly requests with district partners
- Train school-based staff on procedures for data collection and data entry
- Monitor public data sources and retrieve relevant data to supplement datasets
- Monitor and report on data completeness and cleanliness
- Coordinate follow-up requests with partners and internal teams for additional information and to reconcile inconsistencies as needed
- Maintain and organize electronic files, tracking documents, and collection tools
- Design improvements to these procedures as necessary and based on input from stakeholders
- Clean and transform data, standardizing and reformatting as necessary
- Extract, transform, and load (ETL) transferred data from district partners into our data infrastructure (Microsoft Dynamics)
- Develop and maintain ETL pipelines for multiple data sources
- Code, test, debug, implement, and document ETL pipeline
- Perform detailed data verification and validation, proactively identifying data issues including, but not limited to, errors, omissions, and discrepancies
- Develop routines that can be automated and easily modified for scaling
- Streamline and improve internal processes and reporting
- Provide technical data analysis assistance to national, regional, and school-based staff as requested
- Work with national and regional teams to execute timely and accurate analysis including, but not limited to:
- Student enrollment and demographics
- Student performance data
- Student, teacher, volunteer, and alumni surveys
- Alumni college enrollment data
- Create data visualizations and dashboards using PowerBI
- Own the delivery of visualizations and serve as a technical lead
- Respond to ad hoc report requests
- Maintain student data in system
- Support and train users by providing directions, corrections, and enhancements; communicate with users to resolve issues
- Prepare documentation for user training and reference
- Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to provide coaching on system use, recommend changes and automation to improve efficiency
- Knowledge of the education field, including familiarity with current student information systems (e.g., Infinite Campus, PowerSchool) and relevant data sets (e.g., demographics student achievement data, attendance/behavior)
- Experience in analyzing and interpreting school (K-12) or program data, both quantitative and qualitative
- Experience with the development and maintenance of ETL pipelines
- Expert knowledge in SQL skills
- Advanced skills with MS Excel
- Proficient in Python, R, and with other various ETL and analysis tools and software
- High technological proficiency and demonstrated ability to learn new technical/data skills
- Prior experience with software applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, SQL Database, SPSS, Microsoft Power BI, and Survey Monkey
- Knowledge of current trends in data and business intelligence systems
- Ability to productively manage internal and external stakeholders, even in the absence of formal authority
- Demonstrated ability to investigate and problem solve
- Expert organizational and time management skills with high attention to detail
- Self-motivated to meet and/or exceed deadlines
- Ability to work remotely and complete assigned tasks with limited oversight
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
