Quality Assurance Superintendent

Description: Our plastic manufacturing client is currently seeking a Quality Assurance Superintendent for their facility in the Elkhart, IN area. This is a non union facility with a total headcount of about 115. They are looking for someone out of plastics manufacturing, specifically they would like someone out of food or pharmaceutical packaging. 

This job will have the following responsibilities: 
  • Serves both the plants and corporate Quality function, to ensure transparency and to get timely and solid guidance from corporate
  • Designs, implements and directs the Quality Assurance program for the plant
  • Advocates to corporate groups when products require improvement
  • Representative to the Customer on Quality and product performance matters at the plant level
  • Serves as a primary contact with customers in the event of Customer Incidents and leads internal product performance investigation, and implements corrective and preventative actions. 
  • Drives resolution to conclusion and systematically improves product and system quality
  • Coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other plants to maximize product reliability and minimize costs
  • Inspects incoming purchased or customer-supplied materials, work-in-process material, rework materials and finished goods
  • Assures the required level of quality through visual inspection, statistical sampling and laboratory testing of materials; ascertains the reasons for nonconforming materials
  • Establishes, monitors, and maintains statistical process control programs; advises and instructs local managers in utilization of SPC data
  • Ensure all testing requirements are met per corporate standards
  • Provides consistent ongoing analysis of process capability statistics. 
  • Determine, recommend, and assist in continuous improvement programs 
  • Suggest improvements in procedures and techniques to improve product and customer acceptance
  • Establishes, monitors and controls hold for inspection procedures to ensure nonconforming materials do not enter the production process and are properly identified and segregated
  • Analyzes quality control test results 
  • Coordinates internal quality audits
  • Manages team of direct reports and is responsible for employee selection, development, mentoring, and performance management. 
  • Responsible for overall talent management and employee engagement; cultivates an environment of safety, high performance, and ethical and legal compliance; addresses employee relations issues.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Degree not needed, Experience is key! 
  • Strong ISO 9001 experience (audit in April) 
  • 5-7 years as a QA Manager/Supervisor in food packaging or related 
  • Five to seven years’ experience in Quality Management, Engineering Management, Production Management and/or Project Management in a manufacturing environment
  • Six sigma green or black belt would be great, but company will pay for training if needed 
  • Democratic style leadership - not a micro manager
  • Very Self motivated and able to hold people accountable, but not someone who will yell at employees
