Position Details:
Summary of Duties:
The Research Technologist will work with a team of Investigators and peer Research Technologists on a study evaluating the interaction of sleep deprivation, gut microbiome and cognitive performance.
This position conducts research using rodents under general supervision to perform animal care and handling, surgical procedures, experimentation and biospecimen collection. Utilizing training on established protocols, the Research Technologist will implement behavioral assays with the rodents including, hand gentling, sleep restriction, biospecimen collection, sample tube labeling, running instruments, careful documentation of records and results and operation of various computerized equipment and software programs. The Research Technologist will work with an investigator focused on an area of interest, with cross-training to other investigators.
At times this position requires working in early mornings, late evenings and during weekends. Schedules will be determined and communicated in advance.
This position is a full time opportunity. This posting may fill up to 4 (four) roles.
* This is a project position and is expected to end on September 30, 2025. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension to complete the project and if funding is available.

Required Qualifications:
Two (2) years experience as a laboratory technician, research aide, OR equivalent; OR a Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field of science OR technology; OR equivalent education/experience.
Additional Requirements:
• Bachelors degree in appropriate field of science or technology such as Neuroscience, Animal Science, Psychology or Biology. Experience may be substituted for degree.
• Ability to work non-traditional schedule, including evenings, early mornings and weekends.
• Animal handling skills; ability to work with rodents.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to utilize specialized computer equipment and programs such as Word, Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experiences working with rodents for scientific research.
• Experience handling rodents and performing routine procedures/surgeries.
• Knowledge in the maintenance of rodent colonies.
• Experience with scientific protocols and laboratory standard operating procedures.

Monthly Salary: $3,096 to $4,093 | Range #35 | Steps A-M | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28. Step M is typically a longevity step.

Temporary End Date: This is a project position expected to end on September 30, 2025. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
