Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more Responsibilities Medical Director- Primary Care Rome CBOC- The Medical Director of the Primary Care Program at the Rome CBOC provides administrative, programmatic, and clinical leadership for primary care services at the Rome location to ensure achievement of VHA clinical and education goals. The incumbent reports to the Chief of Primary Care at the Syracuse VA Medical Center under the Ambulatory Care Line. This position is a dual clinical and administrative role. The incumbent is a board-certified physician with advanced clinical experience as well as demonstrated administrative and leadership skills who meets the requirements for a faculty appointment at the Syracuse VAMC academic affiliate, Upstate Medical University. The incumbent must have: Demonstrated commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery. Documented ability to coordinate a broad continuum of programs. Management experience with strong administrative and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated skills in providing clinical interface with other disciplines represented at the Rome CBOC and other key stakeholders. The responsibilities include direct patient care work, oversight, and administration of all aspects of Rome Primary Care, and liaison with the Syracuse VAMC regarding training for medical residents and other trainees. The Medical Director collaborates closely with the Rome CBOC Nurse Manager and serves as the first line direct on-site supervisor for all Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT) primary care physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. The following description covers the most significant duties performed but does not exclude other responsibilities which may be assigned. The physician is responsible for delivery of comprehensive primary care to a panel of Veterans. This primary area of responsibility will involve performance of, and documentation of health care delivery for Veterans according to VHA and Syracuse VAMC standards. The physician will be fully qualified and certified to function in both a clinical and administrative role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Syracuse VAMC. Work Schedule: 7:30AM-4:00PM Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 lbs), light carrying (under 15 lbs), use of fingers, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability, mental stability.
