The Circular Economy Advocacy Director is responsible for leveraging in-depth knowledge and understanding of our Client's business in relevant solid waste, recycling and greater circular economy-related policy negotiations to support and sustain a pipeline for new public policy and business development opportunities. This individual must maintain a high level of current knowledge concerning industry and company issues and feel very comfortable representing our client, leading coalitions and exchanging views on these matters. This person will develop and leverage connections within the governmental, non-governmental and commercial sectors. They will also partner with internal and external stakeholders as necessary to achieve objectives.

Principal Responsibilities include the following:

  • Under close supervision of the SVP, responsible for planning and executing advocacy campaigns that support client's mission in assigned markets.

  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of governmental and external communication plans designed to create business opportunities in prioritized market segments.

  • Become a subject matter expert of relevant technology and its application in a Circular Economy for key policy makers and stakeholders.

  • Incorporate a deep understanding of the circular economy along with other business concepts, to identify key trends and market needs that we should address.

  • Be the conceptual architect that will provide economic calculation of solid waste management systems for cities/regions of the United States, Canada and other markets in the Americas as required.

  • Strengthening the leadership brand and network by engaging with various external and internal actors including: public policymakers and policy-leaders, members of the legislature and administration, ENGOs, lobbyists, media, research consultants, business partners, customers, and cross-functional departments.

  • Develop & conduct programs and activities that strengthen leadership brand and promoting appreciation and advocacy for deposit policy and business model.

  • Working with internal partners to develop state and local-level messaging and positioning statements; and create compelling resource materials.

  • Identify and track Key Performance Indicators (KPI) with internal and external business operators.

  • Create compelling, eye-catching materials for both print and digital formats, drafting talking points, and developing program toolkits for key internal stakeholders; as well as resources for our partners and affiliated grass-roots organizations that strengthen and promote both our leadership brand and the deposit brand.

  • Participate in industry stakeholder coalitions and other external programming to advance our positions.

  • Participate in business meetings as the lead governmental/ recycling-circular economy subject matter expert.

  • Assess and gain extensive understanding of the political, environmental, societal and legal frame conditions as they relate to Client's business and other relevant forces

  • Other duties, special projects and responsibilities as assigned


  • Master's or Advanced Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Environmental Studies or related field. Or Bachelor's Degree with very closely related work experience.

  • Minimum 5-years' experience working in advocacy and campaigns as a consultant or at the municipal, state or federal government level in North America.

  • Experience working in sectors including: recycling, circular economy, clean technology or another related field.

  • Verifiable ability to use data and analytics to develop insights and drive effective business solutions.

  • Candidate must demonstrate an ability to build relationships, with the ability to 'teach” on issues. Proven written communication skills - must have prior experience with producing research, reports, articles, social media, etc., (writing samples requested).

  • Ability to explain complex systems and programs in a relatable way to individuals with limited knowledge.

  • Robust oral communication skills - must be able to effectively communicate with both internal and external stake holders through phone, conferencing, and in-person meetings. Able to conduct persuasive presentations to both small and large audiences.

  • Demonstrated experience executing campaigns and projects towards their successful completion.

  • Ability to lead collaborative efforts with peers and colleagues, with demonstrated leadership and relationship management skills in working with third-party consultants, lobbyists, coalition members, and the public.

  • Capacity to foster an environment of teamwork and promote the company's core values and leadership principles.

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; Bi-lingual French or Spanish a plus

  • Highly proficient with and a strong interest with technology of all sorts. Must be able to easily navigate the Microsoft Office Suite, legislative tracking software and CRM Software.

  • Ability to travel frequently for meetings outside of the office as well as the country that could amount to as much as 25-40% of the time. This travel may include evenings and weekends as well domestic and international travel that is part of the normal business schedules of groups in which the company maintains membership.
