Paraeducator- Job Developer

NATURE OF WORK:

The Job Developer works with students and potential employers to create work-based learning and employment opportunities for students with disabilities in St. Mary's County Public Schools. The Job Coach supports the expansion of business relationships with potential employers. In addition, the Job Developer interacts with central administration personnel, school-based administrators and staff to plan, facilitate, and implement transition needs and activities such as providing transition assessments and travel training planning and experiences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist students in completing any necessary paperwork.
  • Negotiate on-the-job training sites for eligible students that can lead to permanent, unsubsidized employment.Work closely with employers and assist in the resolution of job-related problems.
  • Regularly visit students' places of employment and consult with employers regarding job performance.Keep accurate records on each student.
  • Develop job placements for and make necessary preparations for the Summer Youth Employment Program.
  • Travel from various work sites that requires reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and insurance).Capacity to work independently in the field, and a willingness to work collaboratively.
  • Provides supportive career counseling.
  • Operation of office machines including computer workstation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Outreach to local employers in order to develop work-based learning experiences paid employment, internships, and job shadowing opportunities for students with disabilities in St. Mary's County Public Schools.Develop job opportunities for youth in the community by developing high-level relations with business owners, general managers, human resources departments and company recruiters.
  • Customize employment opportunities to meet the needs of youth with varied employment backgrounds.
  • Manage employer relationships to promote retention of youth and creation of new jobs.
  • Maintain a referral list of local employment opportunities in order to inform youth and staff of recent job openings.Form partnerships with local employers to provide supportive work environments for youth with disabilities who need more structured employment experiences.
  • Placement of students in work-based employment based on a match of their interest and skill level.
  • Monitor students and provide support through collaboration with employers of school-based staff.
  • Create partnerships with potential community employers. Analyzes potential work sites and match students as appropriate;
  • Work collaboratively with school staff to find customized employment for students with disabilities;
  • Communicate positively with potential employers and community agencies;Collaborate with district staff to analyze, monitor, and report data to improve employment outcomes for students with disabilities;
  • Collaborates and builds relationships and partnerships with community businesses ; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
Obtained an associate's or higher degree; or

  • Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment the knowledge of an ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics or the instruction in readiness for these subjects. Paraeducators qualify under this criterion must have a high school diploma or equivalent as a prerequisite.
