Job Description

Position: Principal User Experience Designer



Location: Atlanta, GA 30328



Type: Full-Time/Direct Hire



Salary: $115 - 135K





Summary:



This Principal UX Designer role is an expert role within the UXD team and is responsible for creating leading User Experiences both personally and across the UXD team. This role leads in the creation of standards and guidelines, and in evolving how the UX practice works. The position helps create a market-leading user experience (UX) by providing high-quality designs, graphics, mock-ups and layouts for both new and existing web sites and applications. They lead the advancement of user experience within their assigned business portfolios. This will be accomplished by designing the user interface for websites, online applications and other digital outputs. The role seeks out market input and ideas and may work across several BDH or Value Streams. This role encourages a strong sense of client input, continuous improvement and momentum in the UX team. The Principal User Experience Designer plays a critical role in leading software teams, mentoring user experience designers of all levels and help grow future talent within the organization.





This position will lead cross functional teams to understand the customer need and create software solutions that are easy to use and provide a highly engaging experience. The role requires a thorough understanding of usability design principles and best practices, along with an understanding of how visual and interaction design work together to create a world-class user experience.



Principal Duties and Responsibilities:



This is a lead role in defining and overseeing the UX process across the Client, encouraging self-development and improvement within the team, ensuring best practices are employed across different teams



Actively feed ideas and suggestions on how to improve the UX for Client's customers to the AVP User Experience, and work with that person to refine and roll out best of breed practices to all teams.



Help set and monitor standards across different teams



Define and reinforce adherence to Accessibility Standards



Works as a subject matter expert on own UX team as well as providing UX expert cross-team support, standardization, best practices and interconnection.



Partners with business Product Owner, Marketing roles, Scrum team members, and subject matter experts to support the development of user interfaces that are implementable on the web.



Leads the development and implementation of user interfaces that will bring an exceptional and consistent user experience across multiple digital platforms that are consistent and reinforcing of the corporate brand.



Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive and excellent user experiences.



Facilitate and drive the Product Owner’s vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping and user-testing experiences for digital products.



Design and deliver complex wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.



Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs.



Actively research evolving marketplace strategies and technologies to bring in ideas from other industries and companies that would benefits client base.



Develops pattern and style libraries and keeps them updated and maintained.



Creates screen shot mockups and/or prototypes for usability testing and requirements gathering.



Ensures that the user experience is applied consistently by overseeing the use of brand guidelines, color, font, icons and other artifacts, and ensures compliance with Accessibility Standards.



Provide feedback to Marketing on Brand standards, guidelines and direction.



Develops and monitors best practices, trends and new technologies and evaluates them for possible adoption.





Job Specifications





Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, relevant business experience



8+ years of experience designing user experiences and interaction design for rich interactive web sites and/or applications



Be passionate about resolving user pain points through great design.



Excellent communication and influencing skills – able to present and win approval for concepts from senior leadership.



Ability to work on many projects and team in parallel.



Broad range of experiences from different industries and practices



Exceptional user interface and experience design skills and an understanding of user-centered design disciplines and principals, as well as an eye for subtle detail



Passion for results – bringing forward new methods or tools to help advance the user experience.



Proven experience designing for multiple devices, such as mobile and tablet



Excite and inspire teams to prioritize the User in the work that they do



Expert using the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, and standard UX software such as Sketch, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer, and the like. Basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus.



Ability to work as part of an Agile team and influence business partners, Product Owner, development team on the need for strong UX design



A solid understanding of modern web technologies and interaction patterns and experience in designing complex solutions for complete digital environments including mobile-first and responsive design.



Insurance background beneficial



Experience in participating on project teams and ability to clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and clients.



Ability to resolve issues and conflicts with team members



Possess effective communication skills, both verbal and written



Operates with a sense of urgency to meet tight deadlines.



Self-starter and detail-oriented, passionate about all things UX and other areas of design and innovation.



Research and showcase knowledge in the industry’s latest trends and technologies.






 
Develop and promote Accessibility standards across the organisation.
