R & D ENGINEER

This position will oversee the operation of a pilot production process; assist in scaling up from pilot to full production line; and support the manufacturing team with training, quality control and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities:

  • Quickly undergo training on new innovative pilot process.
  • Manage the pilot production line in a supervisory role.
  • Assist in developing quality control tools and mechanisms over and above existing methods.
  • Troubleshoot any production or process related issues and find solutions.
  • Assist in scaling up from pilot process to full production process.
  • Perform physical and analytical testing using standard test equipment as necessary.
  • Assist in developing new test methods where applicable.
  • Work with, assist and support manufacturing group with new full-scale production process.
  • Manage and train operators on the production line.
  • Assist in preparing SOPs and JHAs.
  • Work in a team environment within R&D department, and interface with engineering and manufacturing groups within the company.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Position may require relocating to one of our other facilities within a couple of years.

Education & Knowledge:

  • B.S. degree in Materials Science & Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Chemical Engineering or related disciplines required.
  • Background in process control, quality control is necessary.
  • Six sigma Lean Manufacturing skills/training desired.

Experience:

  • Up to 3 years’ experience working in industrial R&D or manufacturing setting is desired.
  • Experience with pilot or production process control, troubleshooting, SOPs, quality control highly desired.

Competencies:

  • Must be able to perform hands-on work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Must be able to manage temp or full-time operators.
  • Must have a mechanical aptitude, sound analytical skills, attention to details, strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated high level of creativity.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, a strong sense of urgency and be able to work under supervision, and in a team environment.
