Summary

PenFed is hiring an Engineer I, IT Applications in San Antonio, Texas. The primary purpose of this job is to provide basic technical and functional support, maintenance, administration, and documentation under direct supervision for PenFed’s various enterprise, Salesforce, core, member facing, and employee facing applications.

Essential Functions

  • Must demonstrate ability to perform all requirements and show continued progress on job functions.
  • With direct guidance of a senior staff member, develop software for break/fix and business requests by studying information needs; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the software development lifecycle.
  • Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code. Improve operations by conducting systems analysis, recommending changes in policies and procedures.
  • Design, modify, develop, write and implement software-programming applications. Support and/or install software applications/operating systems.
  • Begin to enhance technical knowledge and capabilities to develop an improved understanding of systems and technologies.
  • Implement changes by working with more senior staff according to IT design and coding specifications.
  • Will be involved in the integration, testing (unit), maintenance, and operation of the systems.
  • Knowledge of delivering robust, scalable enterprise applications and is responsible for analyzing user requirements; envisioning system features and functionality; supporting the design and development of application features; completing programming using languages and software products; designing and conducting tests.
  • Assist with the development of system documentation and technological innovations to drive our solutions for the client.
  • Must possess working knowledge of various programing languages.
  • May act as project lead or receive work assignments from designated project leaders.
  • Analyze, design, develop, document and test application programs and system components of a medium to complex nature. 
  • Knowledge of the major peripheral systems that work in conjunction with assigned applications.
  • Must be able to work multiple projects concurrently and shift priorities as required to meet business requirements and deadlines.
  • Work as the highest level technical expert, acting as an internal consultant for all tasks in the analysis, design, testing and implementation of assignments.
  • Ensure appropriate company and departmental Change Control and operational procedures are followed for all production-related updates assigned changes.
  • Develop customized solutions within the Salesforce platform to support critical business functions and meet project objectives, client requirements and company goals
  • Manage daily support and maintenance of internal Salesforce instance, and conduct long-term improvement operations to ensure compatibility with evolving mission requirements
  • Maintain a flexible and proactive work environment to facilitate a quick response to changing project requirements and customer objectives, and innovate ways to meet mission goals successfully
  • Interact directly with clients, managers and end users as necessary to analyze project objectives and capability requirements, including specifications for user interfaces, customized applications and interactions with internal Salesforce instances
  • Provide system administration support of internal and customer-facing Salesforce environment, especially related to customized applications, user permissions, security settings, custom objects and workflow
  • Collaborate with various internal departments, including marketing, product development and operations, to ensure Salesforce environment supports internal needs relating to functionality and performance

Education and Experience

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in SalesForce Development with FSC 
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Applications Development / Application Delivery Pipelines
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience with Git.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with infrastructure designs, implementation, and support
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience with provisioning tool (Docker, Nugget etc.)
  • Experience in the use of programming languages and development tools that are required for the project.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with the following:

  • Hands on Experience in Apex, Batch, Trigger,Visualforce Page, SOQL, Test Class, Integration with REST and SOAP based API's, Lightning Components
  • Scripting languages such as, Python, Ruby, Bash, or Perl
  • Functional and/or OOP programming languages, (Java, jQuery,JavaScript, ASP.NET, VB.NET, Classic ASP)
  • MS SQL 
  • Deployment Management Tools such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef
  • Cloud based hosting solutions (AWS-EC2/ECS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Developing automation workflows and routines, using Open Source Tools
  • Large-scale software implementation (high transaction volume, high-availability concepts)
  • Windows, Linux, server automation and scripting

Salesforce:  Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with the following:

Hands on Experience in Apex, Batch, Trigger,Visualforce Page, SOQL, Test Class, Integration with REST and SOAP based API's, Lightning Components

Experience in designing custom objects, custom fields, picklists, page layouts, workflow, approval processes, validation rules, custom tabs, reports, dashboards, and email generation according to application requirements
Experience with a Salesforce IDE – Visual Studio Code preferred

.NET:  Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with the following:

Functional and/or OOP programming languages, (Java, jQuery, JavaScript, ASP.NET, VB.NET, Classic ASP)
MS SQL 
Experience with an IDE – Visual Studio preferred
Large-scale software implementation (high transaction volume, high-availability concepts)

Java:  Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with the following:

Scripting languages such as, Python, Ruby, Bash, or Perl
Deployment Management Tools such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef
Cloud based hosting solutions (AWS-EC2/ECS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Developing automation workflows and routines, using Open Source Tools
Large-scale software implementation (high transaction volume, high-availability concepts)
Windows, Linux, server automation and scripting

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not supervise employees.

Licenses and Certifications

Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*

Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
