Individual must possess strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills to support commissioning and operation of the next generation nuclear power station. When completed, the two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors currently under construction at Plant Vogtle will make the facility the largest in the U.S. with four reactors on one site. This is an exciting time to join the Southern Company team and share your talents with a growing and progressive organization!_ •*JOB INFORMATION** This position will be filled, and the selected candidate's grade will be commensurate with/reflect his/her experiences, knowledge, and training. The successful candidate will work in the Digital I&C Engineering group at Plant Vogtle 3&4. The mission of the Digital Engineering Design Functional Area is to provide technical conscience and leadership by ensuring configuration changes to the design of the AP1000 digital systems are high quality, budgeted, planned, scheduled, and implemented in a cost-effective manner. This position will provide Digital I&C support by preparing engineering calculations, performing engineering studies, developing cost estimates for design changes, reviewing vendor correspondence, performing conceptual design studies, performing design changes, performing design bases maintenance, performing equivalency determinations, as well as monitoring and providing technical recommendations and Long-Range Planning for assigned digital systems and components. •*Educational Requirements:** + Candidates are required to hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (not Engineering Technology) from an ABET accredited college or university + Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering are preferred + An advanced degree and/or PE license is preferred •*Technical Requirements:** + Experience with various digital systems (Ovation, ABB, Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE) is required + Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: performance of engineering design, analyses, preparation of engineering evaluations, preparation of engineering studies for power generating facilities, preparation of engineering calculations, project management, and technical support of both maintenance and engineering organizations in the resolution of digital component issues + A basic knowledge of design basis configuration management, project management, and the design modification process is preferred + Knowledgeable of the processes used to address operational, maintenance, and reliability issues for electrical/I&C components desired + Experience in the application of design of digital control systems desired + Strong knowledge of AP1000 or PWR design bases is preferred + Strong familiarity with calculations is desired + Experience with developing control software under the industry design process is preferred •*Background/Experience Requirements:** + Minimum of two (2) years of operational power plant experience in an engineering capacity is required; nuclear is preferred + Strong background in nuclear power systems or design engineering desired + Excellent oral and written communication skills + Knowledge in EMI/RFI application and control desired + Design modifications experience preferred + Working knowledge of common computer tools, including MS Word and Excel required + Technical writing and presentation skills required + Engineering Analysis experience preferred •*Behavioral Attributes:** + Makes principled, data-based decisions that take critical factors into account + Works through conflicts to create win/win situations + Holds self-accountable for superior results + Works well as contributing member of a team + Respects the dignity of every individual and different viewpoints + Assumes personal responsibility for individual and company success •*Other Required Attributes** + Candidate must meet background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements + Please note: This position may require the successful completion of the SNC Initial Engineering Training as a condition of continued employment.
