Do you want to play on a team that is developing cutting edge technology?  Do you enjoy discovering breakthroughs to problems that have never been solved?  If you have aspirations to join a team of inventors, we invite you to apply to our Applied Researcher-Data Scientist position!  This role focuses on the research and development of next generation technologies and architectures for the process industry.  The position provides technical leadership in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, cognitive computing, signal processing, engineering analysis, probability and statistics to the global engineering communities and customers.  This is a technical position within the Research organization of Emerson.  The Research group is responsible for exploring and assessing new technologies for process automation, specifically, but not limited to, final control elements.  Emphasis is on the ideation, conceptualization, and proof of viability of new and enhanced process control technology and/or product concepts in support of organizational business objectives.
AS an APPLIED RESEARCHER-DATA SCIENTIST, YOU WILL: 
  • Work with a team of domain experts to research and develop a new generation of hardware and software to establish final control performance and health.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customers to understand their IIoT needs, develop use cases, generate processes, and develop overall solution requirements.
  • Interpret and develop solutions to business problems using current and advanced data feature engineering and machine learning techniques.
  • Contribute to data mining architectures, modelling standards, reporting, and data analysis methodologies.
  • Research best ways to secure process control IT/OT infrastructure.
  • Support the Device Design, Software Design, Service, Support and Marketing teams for new feature/ product launches.
  • Develop content (intellectual property / patents, methodologies, white papers, articles, training, etc.) for served industries, peers and internal audiences
  • Stay current on technology and seek out new ideas with an innovative approach
WHO YOU ARE:
You seek new approaches to solve problems. You analyze multiple and diverse sources of information to define problems accurately before moving to solutions.  You show a tremendous amount of initiative in tough situations and are exceptional at spotting and seizing opportunities.


REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
  • Masters degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) field and 5 years of related work experience
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States 
 PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:  
  • PhD in a related field is preferred
  • Deep understanding or functional expertise in one or many of the following areas:
  • Knowledge of one or more common programming languages, such as C/C , C#, R, Python
  • Cognitive computing, predictive analytics, cloud technologies
  • Database Management / SQL
  • Embedded systems and inter-processor architectures
  • Cybersecurity
  • Sensor technologies

A successful candidate will have a strong background in areas such as artificial intelligence, classification, real-time analytics, machine learning, cognitive computing, engineering analysis, probability and statistics.  An enthusiasm for science and technology coupled with an ability to work in a team environment.  A desire for innovation must be in their DNA.  The ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, Impeccable documentation and Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team will be used to determine job fit.
