This is a virtual/remote position. The ideal candidate will be located in the greater San Francisco Bay area and will have the ability to travel locally to meetings ~1x/month.
Bioinformatics Database Developer – the role:
As a member of our Bioinformatics Team, this professional will plan and design database structures, develop logic queries, and build interfaces in a clinical diagnostics environment. The Bioinformatics Database Developer will be building database tools and integrating them with our bioinformatics pipelines and the review and reporting systems. The Bioinformatics Database Developer may work on individual projects or assignments as a member of a project team which may include project leadership duties.
Design, develop, validate, and implement clinical grade software to communicate with multiple databases and complex query processes relating to next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, clinical diagnostic test development, data quality review, and clinical reporting.
Provide written documentation and specifications of software products and services.
Consult on process and technology improvements within R&D, Operations, and IT departments. Participate in resolution of support requests where computational biology or database tools are used.
Regularly report progress and prepare data analyses for internal review.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required with 5 or more years of professional experience.
Excellent programming/development skills using PL/SQL (package, procedures, functions, triggers) and NoSQL (MongoDB) application development.
Excellent experience in fine-tuning SQL queries, PL/SQL programs, and improving application performance
Expertise with implementing on-premise and on one or more major cloud providers
Solid experience with software development in Linux environment. Knowledge of Perl, Python, shell scripting and Java is a strong plus.
Significant experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data and bioinformatics analysis pipelines, testing/validating scripts, and other tools related to genetic diagnostics.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
