The mission of the Health Equity Research and Analytics team is to conduct research and analytics to uncover disparities in health care delivery and outcomes, and inform the development of innovative products, programs and solutions to support our corporate mission to help all people live healthier lives and to make the healthcare system work better for everyone.

Combining a deep knowledge of healthcare data and a commitment to health equity, the Senior Lead Analyst (SLA) supports a variety of health equity research projects and applied data initiatives.   The SLA is a core member of the team who applies their knowledge and skills in statistics, data analytics and economic analysis to assess the effectiveness and costs of programs and services designed to promote health equity.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a SME on health equity data sources

  • Lead the development of analysis plans using observational data (administrative claims, EHR, survey)

  • Develop and maintain standard programs (in SAS and SQL) for health equity research and analysis

  • Create and document analytic datasets

  • Generate tables and figures of analytic results

  • Lead infrastructure initiatives to improve the quality of deliverables and efficiency of processes

  • Work closely with team members to identify data issues and solutions to the issues

  • Build relationships with internal and external partners to expand our portfolio of data assets

  • Lead and participate in presentations and workshops for internal and external audiences

  • Mentor and train staff on data use, statistical methodology, and other aspects of observational research as needed

  • Mentor and train research staff as needed

Required Qualifications:        

  • Master’s degree in health services research (HSR), health economics, epidemiology, sociology, psychology or equivalent, or PharmD or MD

  • 8+ years of health care analytics experience

  • 8+ years of experience with administrative claims data, EHR/EMR data, or complex relational health care databases 

  • Proven expert level programming in either SQL or SAS; if SAS, working knowledge of Proc SQL

  • Demonstrated ability to create, fit, and test statistical models including linear regression, logistic regression and related generalized linear models

  • Demonstrated ability to perform hypothesis testing, and clearly communicate statistical validity of results

  • Detailed-oriented with solid documentation and tracking skills

  • Demonstrated ability to convert research protocol to programming specification logically and meaningfully

  • Demnonstrated ability to participate in project design and interpretation with Research Staff

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal communication and writing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to execute multi-step data management tasks, recognize technical problems and solve problems with no supervision

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently, comfortable with ambiguity

Preferred Qualifications:        

  • Doctor's Degree

  • Solid expertise in at least one additional programming language, including R, SAS STAT, Stata, LIMDEP or similar programming experience.

  • Knowledge of drivers of health disparities and current challenges in the field

  • Knowledge of measures and analytic approaches used to identify challenges and track improvements in equitable care

  • Experience using administrative claims assets

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
