MARKETING MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION


SLED-Specific Marketing and Business Development Responsibilities



  1. Seek and identify business opportunities for the firm; primarily in the State and Local Government and Educational market segments; present findings to leadership

  2. Analyze research data related to clients; competitors; past, current, and prospective markets; present findings to leadership

  3. Build relationships with clients, teaming partners, and community influencers inside and outside the firm

  4. Track business development opportunities

  5. Develop pursuit plans and client outreach activities ahead of RFP release

  6. Research and gather information on potential clients and projects

  7. Oversee and assist in development of CRM and content management systems

  8. Schedule and meet with new/existing clients to discover pursuit information and details

  9. Manage firm leadership schedules to maintain regular client interactions

  10. Establish and develop pursuit planning documents

  11. Develop qualification, proposal, and presentation messaging and content

  12. Lead presentation preparation efforts

  13. Lead quality control efforts for business development processes

  14. Develop and maintain strong professional network

  15. Participate in client organizations

  16. Work with technical staff to develop proposals and scopes of work and estimate fees

  17. Monitor legislative and/or regulatory activities that could affect the need for services

  18. Assist in identifying, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training marketing team to include Marketing Coordinator

  19. Cover Marketing Coordinator responsibilities and/or supervise Marketing Coordinator to cover


General Marketing Responsibilities



  1. Conduct a marketing audit and present findings to leadership

  2. Participate in strategic planning in collaboration with firm leadership

  3. Participate in creation of the marketing plan and budget

  4. Manage implementation of the firm’s marketing plan in conjunction with the corporate mission

  5. Assist leadership team in developing and driving strategic initiatives forward

  6. Collaborate with business development team to initiate, develop, and manage contact with current clients

  7. Develop and maintain a network of corporate, industry, government, municipal, and community contacts to keep abreast of industry, client, and competitor activity

  8. Collaborate with business development team to develop and execute pursuit planning activities to win new business, assist in selecting presentation team

  9. Develop branded presentations with targeted messaging

  10. Conduct post-presentation debriefing internally and with the prospective client

  11. Analyze and interpret results of client perception surveys and satisfaction studies; present findings to leadership

  12. Represent the firm to clients, peer organizations, and business associates

  13. Manage development and ongoing implementation of corporate brand

  14. Develop initiatives and thought leadership content for collateral materials, website, blogs, media, print, video, and virtual site tours based on marketing plan strategies

  15. Manage firm’s public relations, and generate publicity for the firm

  16. Manage development of innovative promotions to connect with target audience

  17. Manage trade show and special event planning, execution, and follow up

  18. Interview technical team for project content and stories

  19. Write articles, case studies, and white papers

  20. Oversee storyboarding for professional photography and videography

  21. Assist in identifying metrics to track strategic initiatives and marketing success; present findings to leadership

  22. Manage marketing staff, including training for marketing and seller-doers

  23. Maintain internal communications program to facilitate information sharing within the firm; inform and involve principals and technical staff regarding marketing efforts

  24. Manage marketing expenditures to ensure consistency with the budget

  25. Mentor others in business/social etiquette and protocol

  26. Manage quality control for all marketing deliverables

  27. Manage selection and implementation of marketing vendors and consultants, including videographers

  28. Actively participate in professional and community organizations, including SMPS, as well as AIA, ACEC, AGC, ABC, ULI, PWC, and others

Education/Certification Requirements



  • Bachelor’s degree with 4 to 7 years of experience recommended

  • Without a degree, 6 to 10 years of relevant A/E/C experience required

  • Recommended: CPSM certification (or pursuit of certification)

  • Travel to events within 2+ hour radius of office with occasional overnight stay required

  • Lifting to set up at trade shows and the like
