The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Sumner Regional Medical Center encourages the patient and family to be part of the rehabilitation team. We offer physical, occupational and speech therapies, RN case manager and 24-hour rehabilitation nursing care under the direction of full-time medical directors.
Our team of rehabilitation professionals serves patients who:
Are limited in self-care
Have impaired mobility, balance and coordination
Are limited in strength and range of motion
Have cognitive and perceptual deficits
Experience speech and communication problems
Have swallowing disorders
The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is designed to meet the needs of many different types of patients. Some of the common diagnoses for patients referred to Inpatient Rehabilitation include:
Arthritis (polyarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and degenerative joint disease)
Post joint replacement
Brain and spinal cord injury
Neurological disorders (multiple sclerosis, motor neuron diseases, polyneuropathy, Parkinson’s disease and muscular dystrophy)
The Registered Nurse on IRU will provide direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in Inpatient Rehab.
Reports to: Director Inpatient Rehab
Minimum Education Associate’s degree in Nursing or RN Diploma - Required
Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree in Nursing - Preferred
Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Computer proficiency required.
Required Skills Certifications: □ Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association - Required to be current upon hire
Required Skills Licenses: State of Tennessee or Multi-State Registered Nurse licensure – Required
Minimum Work Experience 1 year Medical Surgical or Rehab Nursing experience - Preferred
