Job Description

The Change Agent will lead initiatives to improve Safety, Quality, Productivity, Efficiency, Delivery and Cost to “World Class”. He/she will act as a project/Kaizen leader and provide technical expertise in the area of Continuous Improvement and drive results through TPS methodology and play a significant role in the development of the “Spartan Production System”. This individual will be based in Bristol, IN and will coach and lead lean and continuous improvement projects across the organization. This position will require approximately 15% travel. This position will lead projects of significant impact and is a top priority of the organization which drives lean from the top down.

This position is key in leading the transformation to a lean culture at Spartan and reports directly to the Business Transformation Leader and actively works with the Director of Value Streams at our Utilimaster Corporation business unit. This position will require a candidate with either hands on experience or a degree in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles. Key to success in this role requires a leader that is able to facilitate and drive process improvements, efficient plant layouts, quality, cost and safety, through the use of Lean methodologies in a fast paced and manufacturing focused environment. The position will require a leader with a strategic planning and tactical approach to operational and business objectives, leveraging his/her background, experience and education with Lean to drive results via credibility, influence and leadership by example.

This role will assist the Director of Value Streams and lead, drive, and sustain the cultural and technical changes necessary to make Spartan Motors Inc. (SMI) a world-class Lean organization.
This role will provide leadership and be a catalyst for implementing Lean Enterprise principles, tools, and techniques within SMI’s site operations.
This position will constantly strive to optimize workflow and processes, eliminate non value added activities and improve customer satisfaction through sustainable processes.
Work with peers across locations to design common work standards, systems, and other elements of superior manufacturing practices, to aid in improvement and best practice sharing.
Support the development and implementation of a Lean Production systems design, tools and techniques.
Support the creation of a learning environment/culture, problem solving, envisioning the future state condition.
Responsible for leading at least 5 projects annually with a minimum ROI of $250K.
VSM processes and identify/eliminate waste in the process.
Lead & Train TPS/Lean programs, Lead Kaizen/Lean events.
Evaluate efficiency of existing CI projects underway. Modify, eliminate, and accelerate as appropriate.
Consult with Director of Value Streams and advise Plant Managers on resources, projects, status, and outcomes.
Assist teams with organizing projects. Apply formal project management disciplines and train shop floor and office employee in lean.
Significant time must be spent with teams, individuals, and management.
