Job Description

Provides advanced clerical and administrative work for assigned department requiring independent judgment and specialized knowledge. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Provides clerical support to the Department. - Answers high volume incoming telephone calls and addresses questions regarding Department functions; answers routine questions and forwards caller to appropriate contact if specific response is required - Greets and directs the community as front line receptionist in a busy permitting department - Assists with miscellaneous office projects as needed throughout the office. - Inputs and retrieves data from a computer; makes final checks of documents for proper coding, classification, and mathematical accuracy. Performs related work as required. - High school diploma or GED - At least two years office clerical experience is required with proficiency in typing, word processing, database, spreadsheets, internet and email depending upon the needs of the assigned department Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to: - to enter (quickly and accurately), access, and retrieve data from department applications and programs. - meet and deal courteously with the general public that includes excellent verbal and written communication skills - handle multiple office functions - understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions - work independently and carry out assignments to completion with minimum instruction - input, access, and retrieve data from a computer. Knowledge of: - Business English, spelling, and arithmetic, and of office practices and procedures
