The Broad Institute is committed to meeting the most critical challenges in biology and medicine, to applying our deep knowledge of human genetics to empower a revolution in biomedicine, and accelerate the pace at which the world conquers disease. Through our partnerships with MIT, Harvard and the Harvard teaching hospitals we've become the "hub" of cutting edge science in the Boston biomedical community.
We are seeking a Principal User Experience Designer to help design genomic research tools and lead other designers. Our aim is not just to provide tools to allow for a deeper understanding of the genomic impacts of disease, but to use design to make those tools as easy to use and as desirable as possible. In this role, you will be a senior player and coach:
- Lead complex projects and advocate for UX across platforms
- Actively mentor designers and foster career development
- Fluent in UX best practices, but also know when to break the rules.
- Uncover team challenges and drive solutions.
- Leverage subject matter expertise in both the science and relevant platform technology
- Collaborate with stakeholders, product managers, developers, and senior UX'ers to define and implement innovative solutions to complex design challenges
- Work closely with the development team to iterate as the design is implemented
- Conduct user research
- Experience leading and managing UX designers
- Able to demonstrate examples of user interaction design and speak to tangible results
- Proficiency in wireframing and prototyping tools
- Thrives in iterative process and comfortable experimenting with imperfect information
- Collaborative, flexible, attentive to detail, willing to own the work
- Communication that is clear, evocative, and empathic, both verbally and visually. Can articulate the value of design solutions to various stakeholders
- Curiosity to learn in an extremely complex domain space
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, scientific research, including clinical and genomic, or big data
- Experience working in an agile design/development process
