Certified Recovery Mentor (Serving African American Youth and Families) #742
This program provides culturally responsive alcohol and drug treatment for adolescent African American youth 12 to 18 years of age. The program includes outpatient, community-based treatment and mentoring.
The Recovery Mentor provides case management offering a combination of referral linkage, individual counseling, family support, group counseling and case management services to assist client's successful engagement in treatment and the family's ability to support the client's continued treatment involvement.
Location: This position is based out of LifeWorks NW's King site in NE Portland.
Responsibilities:
- Screen and select clients to participate in the mentoring program.
- Develop the service plan for all clients including a service reporting plan on each referral.
- Assist the family in the initial implementation of the plan, maintaining regular communications with the client's primary therapist, collateral providers, community corrections staff, and linking the client system to needed services within the community.
- Meet regularly with staff from community partners to update them on LifeWorks NW services.
- Provide all services in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Travel between sites or in the community driving clients when needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must demonstrate competence working with the African American community.
- Requires access to a car and valid driver's license.
- High school diploma/GED.
- Must have a current Recovery Mentor Certification and a Traditional Health Worker number from the Office of Equity and Inclusion.
- Substantial experience with issues involving addiction including the language, values, norms and other attributes of the subculture; the subtleties and linguistic nuances of the differences between honest dialogue and statements made for effect.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills and maintains a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
- Requires access to car, valid driver's license, proof of current automobile insurance coverage and verification of safe driving record from DMV.
