Job Description

Veolia Water Technologies Dayton is currently seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to work in the Dayton Ohio office.

This position is responsible for developing scopes of work as well as design, development and commissioning of electrical and controls system designs for various industrial equipment. This will include the review/red lining of P&ID’s, general arrangement drawings, detail mechanical drawings, development of electrical and controls drawings and PLC/HMI code. This is a key role responsible for instrumentation and control hardware design scope of various equipment/technologies and projects. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and assists in the development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Reviews and assists in the development of Process description
  • Reviews detail equipment designs as compared to P&IDs and other design documents
  • Contributes to the development of control concepts and strategies 
  • Develops the Control System Architecture
  • Develops or reviews Functional Design Specification document
  • Develops the electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control panel layout drawings and BOMs
  • Consults and coordinates with the Production department for projects
  • Acts as a customer liaison to clarify customer needs and expectations
  • Assists in providing technical and functional guidance to other employees
  • Aids in the interaction with internal and external customers as required 
  • Actively interacts with Veolia suppliers during design process
  • Reviews bills of materials used to manufacture equipment or to purchase necessary items
  • Reviews and understands equipment requirements (specifications, standards, etc.) in order to address them during the design process
  • Develops QA testing and validation requirements for equipment
  • Support standard equipment by providing start-up, commissioning support, pilot studies, performance tests, troubleshooting or any other on-site field work as required
  • Assists in updating technical documents and manual preparation
  • Reviews or develops electrical schematics and panel layouts in both AutoCAD 2D and specific PLC/HMI programming software.  Modify drawings as necessary
  • Conducts research of dimensions and technical information on a variety of parts required in the manufacturing of equipment
  • Collaborates with various engineers and CAD drafters as required to design electrical controls based on customer specifications
  • Participates in design improvement discussions within the department
  • Participates in standard product development and project execution within the department
  • Reviews drawings prior to the product or project being released to the customer & production
  • Participates in factory and field tests
  • Assists the Document Control with final project close out of all documentation up dates
  • Helps train new or more junior Engineers

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or other related field
  • Must be proficient in the following programs:  MS Office, AutoCAD, PLC/HMI programming software (Allen-Bradley and Siemens); 
  • Knowledge of SCADA (FactoryTalk View SE, Wonderware, Cimplicity or other);
  • Knowledge of networks (Ethernet, Control Net, Device Net, Modbus);
  • Knowledge of water treatment equipment and processes is an asset;
  • Minimum 5 - 8 years of related work experience
