Reporting Location: 2300 Federal Rd., Houston, Texas
Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.*

Performs skilled mechanical duties in the maintenance of water or wastewater systems and facilities. Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, lubrications and repairs of buildings, plants, lift stations, pumps, motors, blowers, compressors, valves, lines and other water/wastewater systems, facilities and equipment. Maintains and repairs equipment and tools. Makes service calls to maintain and repair equipment. Reports unsafe conditions and equipment to proper authorities. Keep records of service calls, maintenance and repair work. May be required to drive a City vehicle and maintain vehicle maintenance and mileage records. Other duties as assigned.
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I.
Requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
One year as a Plant Operator Trainee or 18 months of experience in building or mechanical maintenance is required.

One year of directly related college or vocational education may be substituted for up to a maximum of one year of work experience.
A valid Driver License is required and Compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).Preference will also be given to candidates with training and experience in the corrective and preventive maintenance programs related to equipment such as chemical feed systems and/or flow metering equipment. Such experience could include PVC plumbing and the calibration of analyzers. 

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. ** SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED:     None
However, the department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.
