Job Summary:
As a High Tech Product Safety Engineer, you will work on challenging projects and provide a high-quality certification service to meet the clients' needs. This means you will have the ability to interpret standards, follow processes and procedures as well as provide technical guidance; analysis, execute plans for product testing, and ensure compliance.
Responsibilities:
•Independently manages certification projects concurrently ensuring compliance with all applicable safety requirements achieving completion within time frames and deadlines. Evaluates products against requirements of the national/international standards and guidelines.
•Handles a wide spectrum of projects including those that are complex generating high revenue levels.
•Demonstrates the ability to accurately manage projects within the agreed budget.
•Able to maintain good productivity in line with company expectations.
•Demonstrates technical competence to review the work of others per divisional quality documents (DQD).
•Demonstrates technical competence to perform witness testing per divisional quality documents (DQD).
•Reviews test data/reports and authorize the application of the CSA Mark. Prepares and/or signs Certification Reports and Certificates.
•Keeps the Manager informed of project status as required, pointing out major problems and findings.
•Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager.
•Audit, evaluate, and qualifies customers under various Certification Programs (National and international).
•Exposure to NRTL and CB scheme Audits.
•Knowledge of ISO 17025 and ISO 17065.
•Knowledge of North American and CB scheme certification.
•Performs within the established procedure and work instructions.
•Makes field trips and witnesses test work at manufacturer's facilities as required.
•Has knowledge of the 60950, 60065, and 62368 series national and international standards.
•Demonstrates the ability to compile evaluation records, checklists, test data packs, etc without the need for supervision.
•Demonstrates the ability to correctly interpret the results from the tests with only minimal guidance and supervision.
•Participates in CSA Group Continuous Improvement and Innovation projects.
•Makes recommendations on new programs/equipment to expand core capabilities.
•Generates ideas to improve laboratory safety.
•Recommends revisions to ensure technical consistency to resolve issues of pertinent practices, processes, and precedents.
•Works with sales to support current clients and develop new client opportunities to support growth.
•Prepares project quotations, classifies products by use, environment, and function. Determines applicable requirements / test / standards. Determines sample requirements and method/location for testing/evaluation best suited to customers' needs.
•Provides client feedback to Managers or Sales representatives, as appropriate.
•Explains the different product certification programs available to clients.
Education and Experience:
•Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Preferably Electrical) with 2-5 years of product compliance and certification experience.
•Knowledge of test equipment, test setups, and general laboratory procedures.
•2-3 years of evaluation and testing experience in 60950, 60065, and 62368 series national and international standards.
Skills:
•High level of interpersonal and communication skills; customer service skills, strong problem-solving ability; detail-oriented.
•Strong organizational, time, and project management skills to complete job tasks independently and in a time-efficient manner.
•Ability to work unsupervised, in a team-based work environment.
•Able to read and interpret technical documentation and create technical reports.
The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $105,000 however for more experienced candidates there will be flexibility outside of the stated range.
