The Tax Accountant I is responsible for assisting in the preparation tire fee returns, and sales and use tax filings for the different companies managed by TBC Corporation. Responsibilities also include assisting with state tax audits, working with other tax staff, working with external partners, and reconciling tax accounts. Must understand and record all financial information in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
The Tax Accountant I is responsible for producing various analysis and schedules in conjunction with the various tax filings, as well as identifying and implementing controls on audit findings, etc. The work will include tasks supporting the Shared Services organization as well as supporting the individual business units. The individual will also be required to handle special projects throughout the year.

Assist with Preparing tax filings for all companies and applicable states for tire fee returns, litter returns, etc.
Work with outsourced tax filing/preparation partners on sales and use tax filings
Assist other corporate personnel with tax-related matters
Analyze data for all tax filings, and put data into usable format for both internal and external uses
Ensure business and tax compliance in all states that we operate by reviewing new tax laws
Help design and/or improve controls and current tax processes
Research tax laws and current issues and present recommendations to leadership
Respond to Tax Authorities’ tax notices and inquiries
Reconcile tax accounts in accord with company’s General Accounting policies
Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information
Conduct other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or similar education
Excellent analytical skills
Excellent PC skills, including Excel, Access and Word
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Self-motivated and able to work with deadlines
Prior experience with Vertex, SAP or other ERP systems are a plus
