Field Service Technician
Project Details:
The role of the Field Service Technician is to provide professional installation, service and support for Packaging and Automation customers by coordinating and installing equipment, system startup, repairs and phone and onsite support and Preventative Maintenance visits. The field service technician will interface with the sales department during the sales and design process and will then work with project management and the customer group to plan for a successful installation including training of operators and onsite maintenance personnel. Once system has been installed, this person will support the equipment through the phone and/or trips to the customer sites to perform preventative maintenance and service.
Two types of machines:
Every package you buy from Amazon goes into a bag. When you receive a bag with label on it, it’s being packed by machines.
Every online prescription order through CVS, Walgreens, etc. goes into a central fulfilment center. Prescription gets filled then goes into machine and dispensed with their label. They put pills in with package and label.
They serve ecommerce (amazon) and prescription (CVS)
Machines are a conveyor/ printer; robotic. All controlled by sensors that are programmed through an HMI and PLC code.
This tech will be setting up machines and operating HMI machine. Set up machine, make sure everything is in tolerance, all mechanical devices (conveyor, printer) operating correctly. Any auto mechanic or aircraft mechanic can figure this out, as well as electricians. Needs little mechanical aptitude to understand but otherwise if you know mechanical devices, good to go!
MUST HAVE Skills & Technologies:
Valid Driver’s License and have a valid passport or eligible to get one.
3 years’ experience working for packaging company
Electro/ mechanical automation experience
Experience with robots or automation such as PLC’s

Day to Day:
Customer pre-consultation, site readiness preparation, and startup monitoring.
Attend conference calls with sales, project management and new customer to work through installation issues.
Coordinate equipment and system installations and follow through with customers to insure proper function of systems installed.
Calibrate HMI’s, meters, set timers, temperature seal time, etc. and adjust as required during service or startup as indicated in manufacturer’s manuals etc.
Using outline, train operators and maintenance personnel.
Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
Provide phone and onsite customer support to customers.
Troubleshooting – determine causes of operating errors and taking action to remedy the problem.
Perform inspections and advise customers on methods to minimize downtime and interruptions.
Upon completion of service/support tasks, must complete reports on service work performed and follow through with next steps to insure the equipment or system continues to perform for the customer
Maintain knowledge of functions and applications of these products.
Observe and follow all safety rules as required and published and maintain and care of all supplies and tools properly.
Help maintain and control the parts inventory and service tool inventory.
May be assigned to other duties on a temporary basis for the purpose of increasing personal competence, providing assistance to other TPA Division personnel or training and assisting less experienced personnel.
Assist in the quote process for jobs requested by the sales department.
Assist in producing short instructions videos and writing machinery documentation for customer applications
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintaining instructions, schematics and procedure manuals.
Ability to review and understand mechanical and electrical drawing packages.
Able to read and understand wiring diagrams to trace electrical circuits and ensure proper operation according to manufacturer's specifications.
Ability to perform trouble shooting of mechanical, controls, and instruments at fabrication shop or at customer site locations.
Ability to replace worn or defective parts such as switches, pumps, motors, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, control boards, elements and defective wiring.
Ability to manage/lead in situations with customers, team members, and contractors with composure.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Computer knowledge and skills proficient with Excel, Word and Power Point.
Strong time management skills and organization skills necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
Must be able to sit for long periods on airplane or in an auto to reach job destinations
Must be able to have manual dexterity to operate equipment and tools required on the job
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Nice to Have:
Heavy on electrical and trained on electro will be a nice to have
Level or number years of experience: 3-5 years of experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Education: Associates degree in a technical field or equivalent. College or high school degree fine- as long as they have this experience
Industry preferred: Packaging Industry
