FUTURE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The subject matter expert (SME) provides the knowledge and expertise in a specific subject, business area, or technical area for a project/program.

SMEs are typically found among those who have been in their roles for a long enough period of time for their knowledge and skills to be "second nature". A SME should know both their clients' industry and their job well enough that they rarely have to look up information and, if they do have to, they know exactly where to find the information.

SMEs help clients design business processes to drive value for the organization, often as part of a software implementation or upgrade.

The primary responsibility of the SME is to understand and document the client's business requirements, devise and document business processes and software solutions to deliver those requirements, communicate the solution to all stakeholders, and lead the implementation of the solution.

To achieve this, the SME will:

• Engage with multiple external customer stakeholder groups during multiple business process sessions to define business requirements and process flows

• Analyze, define requirements, design, configure, and support business applications

• Create and maintain functional deliverables including business process diagrams, design specifications and documentation of configuration changes

• Design and develop configurations to tailor the behavior of the software to the client's business processes and evolving business requirements

• Provide continual improvement process recommendations and implementation related to the customer experience

• Assist with implementation of new functionality, configurations, enhancements, interfaces, extensions and reports as approved

• Troubleshoot solution issues, whether related to business process, user education, configuration, core software functionality or those originating from customization, extensions, or interfaces

• Conduct analysis on problems independently, research and recommend solutions, and execute resolution steps to address client issues.

• Create test plans, test cases, test scripts and perform functional testing

• Strong problem solving skills – logical approach and methodical analysis

• Assist in risk management activities including identifying, mitigating and escalating risks

• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a dynamic team environment
