Manpower is hiring for a Freight Administrative Assistant for our client in New Orleans.
Reporting to the IFF Freight Manager, this position is responsible for processing air/ocean export and foreign to foreign shipments, as well as assist with import freight shipments if required. This includes ensuring regulatory compliance in all transactions.
*Ideal candidate will have international freight forwarding experience - knowing rules and regulations, experience working with overseas agents, booking, processing paperwork for export.
*Anyone with past experience in trucking, steamship company, border agent or carriers will have the necessary experience for the role. Candidates should know what an ocean bill of lading is.
*Manager will also consider candidates with import experience
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
*Upon receipt of shipment documents, checks for completeness and performs data input to open file
*Tracking outbound status with air and ocean carriers
*Performs billing function including preparing client invoice and all required support documents
*Negotiate rates with carriers and vendors on a spot shipment basis
*Manage and maintain customer profiles
*Providing freight quotes to import clients if required
*Communicating with overseas agents to make forwarding arrangements for inbound shipments if required
*Obtain net/net costs from overseas agents, airlines and steamship lines in order to prepare freight rate quotations to provide to clients
*Obtain inland freight rates for domestic on-forwarding
*Provide shipping details and status updates to clients, co-loaders/other brokers and/or internal staff members
*Insure that all required documents are obtained from overseas agent and/or steamship lines
*Billing and closing of master consolidation files, including auditing agent profit shares.
High School Diploma required
3-5 years related experience
Required to maintain a high level of accuracy
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
Strong customer service orientation
Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
Strong PC skills
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle large volume of work
Strong team player
