Title:

CAD Manager/Mechanical Engineer - Top Secret

The CAD Manager will report to the Program Manager and is responsible for the leadership and effective execution of drafting projects by the drafters and mechanical engineering staff supporting governments programs at the Columbia, MD location. The CAD Manager is responsible for the management of the CAD software systems and management of the drawing standards, configuration control and documentation libraries. The CAD manager will ensure that all department guidelines and protocols are followed including adherence to drafting standards and procedures as well as adherence to accepted industry standards. Will interface with customers in defining requirements and assign and manage resources to successfully execute those requirements to prescribed schedules and budgets. Designs & develops mechanical system solutions based on engineering principles. May be required at times to work in close collaboration with engineers to prepare a wide variety of manufacturing layout drawings, electrical drawings, schematics, illustrations, three dimensional models and other type of drawings required for technical documentation.

Job Duties

  • System Administrator for CAD software (Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault)

  • Develops and manages drawing standards and revision control standards

  • Controls assignment of part, system and drawing numbers

  • Develops cost estimates

  • Allocates appropriate departmental resources to ensure projects are completed within schedule and budget

  • Prepares schedules and provides status reports to program management and customer teams

  • Conducts quality checks/audits on drawings and bills of material

  • Provides finalization approval on documentation packages

  • Identifies and investigates drafting technical issues and implements corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence

  • Coordinates and monitors out-sourced projects to sub-contractors

  • Works cross functionally to develop new processes to improve department efficiency

  • Conducts various aspects of performance management such as performance appraisal or counseling of employees with behavior or technical performance problems and assists in the interviewing, hiring, and training of new personnel

  • Must be able to handle shifting priorities

Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering or applied science

  • 8 years of related experience. In lieu of formal education 16 years directly related engineering or applied science work experience

  • 5+ years experience leading a CAD team

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Autodesk Vault software. Current release is 2022

Clearance: must have an active Top Secret clearance and be willing to upgrade to a Full Scope Poly Level clearance
