The IPF Sales Consultant II is responsible for implementing the BIPI IPF sales and marketing plans to assure maximum distribution and market penetration of BIPI IPF products within BIPI guidelines, policies and directives.  The IPF Sales Consultant II will conduct their business with key IPF Clinics and appropriate targeted Pulmonologist/IPF Specialist and related IPF health care specialists.  He/she is proactive in their approach and response to situational business needs and requirements. The incumbent will have additional responsibilities for sales activities in teaching and community hospitals, federal and military hospitals, managed health care facilities, etc. The IPF Sales Consultant II will manage a geography that may require overnight travel and occasional night and weekend IPF meeting responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The IPF Sales Consultant II maintains and utilizes exceptional IPF product knowledge and highly effective selling skills in order to influence targeted IPF health care professionals to support the use of BIPI promoted products.  He/she is valued by their customers as a consultative partner who understands and respects the IPF business and environment. Executes brand strategies and business plans to ensure a consistent company sales and marketing message. Establishes and maintains exceptional communication/cooperation/coordination with internal BIPI employees.

  • The IPF Sales Consultant II develops Pre-call plans to meet the individual IPF health care professionals' (HCP) needs as well as the accounts needs. Builds valued discussion around IPF HCP needs and opportunities. Fosters IPF HCP network development and communication. Has accurate and timely follow-up discussions with IPF HCP. Fosters ongoing trust with IPF HCP as relationship develops. Excels at using appropriate BIPI Sales Training techniques which supports and encourages technical exchange of scientific knowledge and dialogue thereby providing enhanced value to the HCP through facilitation of individual patient management and therapy decision making process. 

  • The IPF Sales Consultant II provides expert identification of key territory IPF business needs and activities, establishes  business plans that address comprehensive IPF territory business needs and identifies and supports regional business needs through active involvement of Associate Director, Marketing team, Nurse Educator, Access and Distribution Managers, Key Account Managers, and other BI Internal support personnel in the development, management and accomplishment of key Territory business opportunities.

  • Provides expert analysis of territory information to optimize IPF HCP calls. Monitors and effectively reacts to local market conditions for changes that impact business at territory level. Utilizes VEEVA and other BI supporting analysis processes to plan activity, monitors literature use, and maintain account and IPF HCP records.  Completes all administrative responsibilities in a timely fashion as directed by management.  Provides regional leadership through successful and timely completion all Sales Training requirements.

  • The IPF Sales Consultant II manages territory budget that supports the development of Regional and Territory IPF thought leaders, innovators and advocates to support BIPI IPF products. He/she assist in determining how to efficiently utilize Regional and National Speakers and other company resources in their territory by pro-actively working with Associate Director of Sales. Provides appropriate feedback and follow-up to IPF speakers and attendees. Initiates contacts and network-building among advocates and IPF HCPs. Expertly manages programs and budgets to stay within BI IPF standards. Determines how to efficiently and effectively utilize company resources to include Regional and National speakers by pro-actively working with BI IPF Leadership and Marketing teams.

  • Performs all company business in accordance with all regulations (e.g., EEO, FDA, DEA, OSHA, PDMA, EPA, PhRMA, etc.) and company policy and procedures.  When violations are noted/observed they are to be immediately reported to management.  Demonstrates high ethical and professional standards with all business contacts in order to maintain BIPI's excellent reputation within the medical and pharmaceutical community.

  • The IPF Sales Consultant II provides consistent, timely and complete administrative duties and responsibilities. All expense reports, call reports, and communications are completed effectively and on time.

  • Accepts responsibility and ownership of personal development while working closely with his/her IPF Associate Director of Sales.  Develops a personal development plan and ensures twice annual review with Associate Director of Sales. Assist the Associate Director of Sales with special programs and initiatives designed to support the growth and development of peers within the Region.

  • Demonstrates complete and exceptional knowledge of BIPI IPF products and related marketplace, effective translation of product knowledge into the sales presentation and is customer focused with a priority directed towards providing solutions based customer interactions. Delivers exemplary level of clinical and technical value to his/her customers, assisting the health care customer in meeting their unique patient care needs, all within BI regulatory guidelines.  Provides expert understanding of the DSID payer landscape. As a trusted IPF Sales Consultant II, encourages and receives requests from customers for expert technical information outside of standard visits. Through all these endeavors, develops trust and subsequent value with IPF customers.

  • This individual will also serve as a mentor to IPF Sales Consultant I, in training and educating them on total office call, budgeting, customer centricity, career paths available

  • within the region as well as assistants in identifying payer and customer trends within respective geography.

Level I Requirements\:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited required.

  • Strong communications skills are required to perform the job satisfactorily.

  • Ability to translate key scientific information supporting product, competitors, science and marketplace to a broad range of IPF customers.

  • Ability to travel with overnights and attendance at some weekend programs.

  • In-depth understanding of the economics/business of IPF across all settings, the evolving reimbursement environment and evolution of specialty distribution and patient support services.

  • Expertise in the learn principles with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex data to targeted customers, and leverages the customer centricity model when developing business plans.

  • Working knowledge of the PhRMA guidelines and other regulatory statutes (e.g. PDMA, Sunshine Act) that affect pharmaceutical promotion and ensure compliance with all BI policies and procedures.

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities\:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful Pharmaceutical sales experience required; 2+ years of Specialty/Pulmonary experience preferred.


Level II Requirements\:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required

  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful pharmaceutical sales experience with a minimum of three (3) years Specialty/Pulmonary experience required

  • Strong communications skills are required to perform the job satisfactorily.

  • Ability to translate key scientific information supporting product, competitors, science and marketplace to a broad range of IPF customers.

  • Ability to travel with overnights and attendance at some weekend programs.

  • In-depth understanding of the economics/business of IPF across all settings, the evolving reimbursement environment and evolution of specialty distribution and patient support services.

Sr. Consultant Requirements\:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required.

  • A minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of successful Pharmaceutical sales experience with a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years Specialty/Pulmonary experience required.

  • Track record of working within a high performing team & a cross functional matrix environment.

  • Excellent communications, objective setting, and influencing skills.

  • Sr. IPF Consultant requires at least one (1) year prior experience demonstrating acct. management, leveraging HUB services, collaborating with nurse educators & specialty pharmacies, supporting reimbursement navigation, working individually outside a 'pod' structure, fostering market development, regional KEE engagement & relationship management, linking KEEs with appropriate internal stakeholders, fluency in the inner networking & navigation of teaching institutions

  • Ability to travel in the US including overnight and attendance at some weekend programs, approximately 10-50%, depending on geography.

  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and any other relevant applications.

  • Strong communications skills are required to perform the job satisfactorily.

  • Ability to translate key scientific information supporting product, competitors, science and marketplace to a broad range of IPF customers.

  • In-depth understanding of the economics/business of IPF across all settings, the evolving reimbursement environment and evolution of specialty distribution and patient support services.

Eligibility Requirements\:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
