As a System Engineer in Yale’s Smart Residential Product Development group you will work with the internal team of engineers as well as a global team of cross-functional product development engineers developing and testing Residential electronic locking products and associated mobile and web based applications. Demonstrate technical competency in System engineering deliverables. As a System Engineer, you are responsible for coordinating and executing technical tasks from the inception phase to the product launch and through the sustenance. Be creative and innovative with strong debugging skills while reviewing and refining system architectures, and conducting system integration activities, including integration of electrical, firmware, software, and mechanical design components.  While our preference is to have this position based out of the Berlin, Connecticut site, a remote role may be considered for the right, qualified candidate.  


Job Duties include:

  • Coordinate with engineering and product teams to work through each stage of the product design, development, testing and debugging, product launch.
  • High involvement required with product development engineers and contractors in System engineering and technical deliverables.
  • Create inter-device communication protocol definitions.
  • Develop and maintain Product Technical Specification documents..
  • Ability to debug and provide failure analysis.
  • Direct activities required to support product certifications, including FCC, UL, CE, BT SIG, Zwave, ZB, WiFi, Thread and others as required by market applications. Develop associated certification documentation.
  • Lead and participate in program Technical Reviews.
  • Participate in the design and testing of Home Automation Network protocols.
  • Communicate task status through reports, presentations and program reviews
  • Data analysis and corrective action as required. Ensuring integrity of hardware and software acceptance tests as well as compliance to customer drawings, specifications, and procedures.
  • Ensure designs and 3rd party deliverables meet product requirements.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering in Product Development for at least 5 yrs
  • Demonstrated experience in electronic and/or firmware analysis design, development, and test. Experience with embedded micro-controller systems.
  • New Product Development experience from concept to production and Strong engineering project management skills
  • Ability to read and analyze schematics, engineering requirements, data, and test results.
  • Ability to identify, log, track and close out hardware, firmware and system level software bugs.
  • Utilization of general test equipment i.e. oscilloscope, function generator, DVM, logic and protocol analyzers
  • Demonstrated experience working on project teams as well as ability to work independently in a fast paced team environment.
  • Comfortable working with team members through various product development and problem solving activities
  • Creative thinker with high initiative and high achievement goals
  • Working knowledge of electronics manufacturing
  • BLE, Thread, WiFi, Zwave and/or ZigBee Network knowledge and experience preferred
  • Mobile Application to cloud connectivity protocols
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Education:

  • BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field

Experience:

  • At least 5 years in a New Product Development capacity as a System Engineer.
