The Southeastern University Department of Nursing (DON) offers professional education programs that prepare students to provide excellent nursing care to individuals, families, and communities through the integration of faith, learning, and service. Students gain an educational foundation that allows them to provide safe, evidence based and culturally competent care for all patients, with special emphasis on the underserved. Students use clinical judgment to integrate evolving technology and research findings into caring interventions that improve patients’ health and support the sick and dying, their families, and communities. Students commit to life-long learning, rigorous scholarship, leadership, and collaborative inter-professional practice as a means of serving their communities.

Position Summary:

The Chief Nursing Administrator is a visionary leader for SEU’s nursing programs, faculty, and students and maintains oversight of disciplinary partnerships, initiatives, and projects. The Chief Nursing Administrator prioritizes excellence in program design across all deliveries at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Chief Nursing Administrator is committed to stewarding the history of Southeastern University’s nursing programs while remaining focused on continuous innovation and growth. The Chief Nursing Administrator holds a faculty rank consistent with the faculty handbook rank classification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Faculty Leadership

  • Leads faculty, staff, and adjuncts of the Department of Nursing to collaboratively achieve the university’s strategic plan for growth of nursing programs.

  • Mentors and develops faculty and staff on the university’s cultural norms, innovative mindsets, and excellence in their field of study.

  • Supervises department chair, program directors, faculty, staff, and adjuncts on the functions of academic program delivery including undergraduate and graduate programs online and on campus.

  • Cultivates a culture of collaboration and respect among faculty staff and students.

  1. Strategic Planning

  • Contributes to university strategic planning on DON programs, policies, and faculty development.

  • Works collaboratively with the Dean of CNHS to achieve strategic plan objectives. Assists the Dean and Office of Advancement on strategic projects related to the College.

  • Collaborate with the Office of Enrollment and Marketing on strategies to ensure program offering viability and marketability.

  1. Academic Management

  • Ensures the efficiency of course scheduling and faculty load in collaboration with the Dean

  • Chairs or serves on standing committees, as applicable, including College committees, and elsewhere as called upon as a representative of the College.

  • Oversees the maintenance of professional accreditation of Nursing programs, collaborates with the Dean on the annual budget, monitors expenditures, and plays an integral role in student recruitment, retention, and program growth.

  • Manages Healthcare Compliance and Regulations as well as affiliate agreements and relationships.

  • Prepares reports for the Dean to submit to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.

  • Teaches courses as assigned by the Dean.

  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Preferred/Essential Qualifications:

  • Education – An earned doctorate in nursing or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Record of educational excellence as demonstrated in performance evaluations, scholarship record, and letters of recommendation. If terminal degree is not in nursing, MSN is required.

  • Professional Experience- At least 5 years of professional nursing clinical experience in a healthcare setting or institution. Experience with overseeing CCNE and SAS-COC or other accreditation activities including development of self-study, overseeing site visits and providing documentation to accreditors.

  • Leadership – Demonstrated strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills in an academic setting.

  • Project Management – Project and team management skills, with emphasis on leading academic projects.

  • Collaboration – Ability to work with faculty and staff with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

  • Multi-student Mindset and Nontraditional Learning Theory – Knowledge of contemporary and emerging learning theories, instructional theories, practices, and their applications in nontraditional education.

  • Instructional Design & Technology – Ability to develop and present instructional materials, assess technology and software programs, and identify advantages and limitations of using various technologies for instructional purposes.
