Seasonal Equipment Operator

Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining contracted assets (roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) through operation/use of heavy equipment, particularly during seasonal needs (i.e., snow plow operations). This position requires a highly developed sense of safety awareness and perceptive ability. You must have the ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks and make adjustments to avoid loss, injury, or accident. You must be able to communicate safety instructions to co-workers and think clearly in your immediate surroundings while using tools and equipment.

We are seeking Snow Plow / Seasonal Equipment Operators for the seasonal time period of October - April.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.



Primary Responsibilities and Key Deliverables

For Winter Season: Removal of snow and ice using snow removal and/or sanding equipment, including salting and other seasonal maintenance on roads, bridges, etc.

For Summer Season: Maintain and repair highway and other surfaces including signs, guardrails, fence, lighting, potholes, striping, adding or replacing reflectors, litter, and debris removal.

As Required:

  • Traffic control setup and removal
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites
  • Available for emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Effectively communicate (in English); both orally and in writing with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Consistently follow all policies and procedures.
  • Understand instructions in written, oral, or diagram form, and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Capable of working in an environment where demands and priorities change rapidly.
  • Work with hand and power tools, traffic control devices, and mobile equipment.


Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years related work experience in construction, road maintenance, or operating equipment with a DZ license.


Certifications and License:

  • Valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license and acceptable driving record; AZ license a plus!


Work Conditions/Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Vision abilities include close and distance vision.



Work Environment

The employee is routinely exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high places; fume or airborne particles. Frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, insects, and infrequent exposure to reptiles/rodents.
