Job Description

Overview:
Provides leadership, vision and management of various strategic processes and initiatives in support of the Wealth Management (WM) business. Oversees and consults on business strategy, product management, sales administration, reporting and project support functions to support organizational growth, business line profitability, and an optimal operating model.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead business strategic initiatives with key business partners, within Wealth Advisory Services and across the Bank, ensuring mutual objectives, financial targets, and critical milestones are established to attain short and long-term goals.
  • Ensure appropriate support, service and management resources are in place to meet expansion initiatives. Implement recommendations upon senior management approval.
  • Work closely with senior WM leaders to propose strategic direction for assigned initiatives, and present business plans to senior management.
  • Develop channel strategies and provide competitor analysis to support ongoing profitability and efficiency of the business.
  • Analyze related developments in the community bank and national markets to determine impact on our business; evaluate and recommend new or enhanced retirement services and products to remain competitive.
  • Evaluate profitability of new product/services and their success; implement and manage changes in service and marketing strategies to further enhance profitability
  • Collaborate with Wealth leadership to develop and implement plans for continuous upgrade of systems, processes, and personnel designed to support growth and profitability of the business. Oversee project management activities for the department and represent Wealth Advisory Services for Division and Bank-wide projects.
  • Responsible for the measurement, reporting, analysis and development of recommendations on key business metrics to support business decisioning. Provide timely, accurate and complete reports to ensure efficient and effective operations and work flows.
  • Develop analytical tools and enhance reporting and key performance indicators to monitor performance and improvements.
  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:
The Wealth Management division oversees Private Banking, Asset Management, Wealth Advisory and M&T Securities and provides financial services and solutions to individuals. These services are offered through a comprehensive and integrated offering. In supporting Wealth Management, the position leads efforts to impact business profitability. The position is responsible for shaping strategy, including identifying and directing resources towards key outcomes. This requires the position to be able to work with senior managers and influence them while conveying solutions to them. The position must work with decisiveness in a fast-paced environment, while being able to handle multiple competing priorities and quickly implement approved ideas. Being able to communicate effectively to all levels within the Wealth organization is also a key component of the position.
Supervisor/Managerial Responsibilities:

Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 9 years' experience in financial services in brokerage and/or wealth advisory, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years' higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 9 years' experience in financial services in brokerage and/or wealth advisory

Minimum of 3 years' managerial experience
Education and Experience Preferred:
Master's degree

Minimum of 10 years' experience in financial services in brokerage and/or wealth advisory

Minimum of 5 years' supervisory and/or managerial experience

Prior experience in a leadership role in wealth and investment products, servicing or operations, working directly with Senior Management
