Structures Project Engineer
CEC is seeking a proven Civil/Structural Project Engineer with a specialization in bridge and transportation projects to help broaden and enhance our Transportation Practice. This position will directly support CEC’s mission to eliminate aging infrastructure and drive community growth by delivering quality solutions, design, and service to its clients. CEC’s Transportation team has a long history of state and local agency transportation services consisting of technical expertise from our Oklahoma offices and emerging offices in Texas and Arkansas.

Enhance your knowledge with new experiences in a broad range of structure types from the design of conventional grade separations to complex flyover bridges to major open water crossings,and including structuralassessments, load ratings, and asset management. Collaborate on technical and management challenges with engineering leaders to develop solutions that are sound and verified through team cooperation and experiences.
The selected candidate is expected to have three or more years of experience in the transportation industry with structural engineering experience relating to the design and maintenance of bridges, culverts, and retaining walls for transportation projects. This position also requires experience in construction document preparation and knowledge of project management.In this role you will perform design and analysis as well as other structural engineering tasks for transportation structures and components associated with our client transportation needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as project engineer with autonomy for project-related tasks and as a designated client contact.
- Develop feasible engineering design alternatives to meet project requirements.
- Prepare structural calculations, modeling, analysis, and design.
- Perform field visits to inspect existing structures and identify necessary repairs.
- Participate in meetings with clients and project team meetings.
- Prepare contract documents including technical reports, studies, plans, specifications, construction cost estimates, and permitting for projects.
- Utilize computer software to create or assist in the creation of detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts, including, but not limited to, plan and profile views, cross sections, details and schedules, for the construction of bridge components, such as decks, steel and concrete beams, bearings, piers, abutments and foundations.
- Conduct quality review of structural calculations and contract documents.
- Maintain accurate design standards and procedures in assigned work.
- Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs.
- Maintain project records and perform project administration.
- Collaborate and coordinate with other engineers, designers, and technicians on project activities.
- Coordinate with Department leadership and Accounting regarding project invoicing and collections.
- Provide technical support, guidance, and input to project team.
- Develop, foster, and maintain client relationships. Pursue repeat or follow-up work with current clients.
- Assist in training and development of technicians and other team members.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited university; Master’s degree (M.S.) with emphasis in structural engineering is desirable.
- Three or more years of progressive experience specific to engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license required. If not licensed in Oklahoma, Texas, and/or Arkansas, must be able to obtain licenses within six months of start date.
- Project experience with Oklahoma DOT, Texas DOT and/or Arkansas DOT preferred.
- Experience in structural detailing in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software preferred.
- Experience with structural design software such as Bentley OpenBridge and MDX preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Good organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Remote connectivity device (e.g., smart phone, tablet, etc.) with data plan sufficient for company requirements, including multi-factor authentication, time and mileage tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
- Ability to sit up to eight hours per day.
- Ability to stand and/or walk, including over uneven surfaces, for extended periods of time (field visits).
- Ability to manipulate computer mouse up to eight hours per day.
- Ability to see clearly 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; depth perception; and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation.
- Occasional exposure to dust, dirt, weather conditions (field visits).
WORK SCHEDULE
- Fixed schedule of 40 hours per week between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Occasional extended hours required as projects dictate.
- Eligible to submit application for telecommuting after 90 days.
