Position:  Buyer – Sr (Mold Tooling) 
 
Department: Tooling Engineering
 
Reports To: Tool Engineering – Cost Control Manager


Job Summary: Purchases injection molds and related tooling, components, equipment, materials, and services in support of the company's operations, and manages quality, cost, and on-time delivery of the goods and services.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Negotiates supply contracts to purchase prototype and production tooling utilizing new and/or         existing.suppliers 
2. Prepares and issues RFQ's to suppliers to obtain quotes for new tooling, revisions, and                  repairs, and selects the tool source 
3. Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers
4. Reviews product design for tooling construction 
5. Develops and maintains completion and progress charts to meet company build dates
6. Oversees Engineering changes and major tool repairs at outside suppliers and outside tool            shops
7. Travels to domestic and foreign tooling vendors for on site follow up and tool tryouts
8. Follows up outsourced tools through ISIR approval and final tool payment
9. Follows transfer, tryout, and approval of outsourced tooling in a timely manner
10. Leads outsourced tool meetings, informs manufacturing of status of tooling and supplier                  equipment problems, and establishes an open channel of communication
11. Performs problem solving activities with suppliers, and establishes continuous improvement            targets
12. Prepares and presents information for ECM review
13. Acts as resource person for Product Launch Team activities, and participates in design                    process reviews
14. Provides technical support to tooling suppliers, NAL manufacturing, and all other NAL                    departments
15. Keeps current on state of the art tooling and processes, and develops new tooling sources 
16. Performs other duties as assigned
 
Requirements:  
1. Must meet one of the following Education and Experience requirements:  
a. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline, plus 4 to 6            years of experience in a related tooling, purchasing, or manufacturing position; OR  
b. Associate's Degree in Tool/Die Technology or a related discipline, plus 6 to 8 years of                      experience in a related tooling, purchasing, or manufacturing position; OR 
c. Journeyman Tool/Die Maker, plus 4 to 6 years of experience in a related tooling, purchasing, or
    manufacturing position
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Supply Chain Management is preferred
Experience in both tooling and purchasing in automotive manufacturing is preferred
