Description
Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems (NGIS) is currently seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to provide manufacturing and process engineering technical expertise and project management for our large caliber ammunition production programs in our Plymouth, MN office. This position is located at Northrop Grumman's office at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAAP) near Burlington, IA.

Role description and responsibilities:
  • This position reports to the Large Caliber Training Ammunition Engineering Manager and is responsible for providing manufacturing engineering support to large caliber ammunition programs produced at our supplier's location on the IAAAP facility.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes and documentation for large caliber ammunition meets engineering and configuration requirements.
  • Coordinate the build of test and production lots.
  • Contribute to the completion of specific program and project milestones and interface with the program team to ensure the objectives and milestones are met.
  • Disposition discrepant hardware and support failure investigations, root cause determinations and corrective action implementations.
  • Communicate manufacturing plans, processes and project status to internal and external customers.
  • Conceptualize and implement continuous improvement projects.
  • Manage manufacturing engineering principals to ensure robust manufacturing processes and high quality product. Examples include SPC, P-FMEA, Mistake Proofing, gage R&R, equipment and gage qualification, Design for Assembly and First Article Inspections.


Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 2 years (or 0 years with a M.S.) manufacturing engineering experience in both product development and production environments.
  • Experience working with customer engineering, vendors and subcontractors.
  • Ability to travel domestically.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with energetic materials including propellants and explosives.
  • Experience in project engineering/management.
  • Experience working in the defense industry and/or with U.S. Government contracts.
