Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, the incumbent performs duties in a before and after school enrichment program at schools in the Downey Unified School District (DUSD). The Group Leader is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating a variety of instructional and enrichment activities. The Group Leader is also responsible for the supervision of students in their group, and ensuring the group's safety and wellbeing at the program.Must be available Monday-Friday, from school release to 6:15pm.
- Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of enrichment activities following a prescribed plan developed in cooperation with other personnel.
- Coordinate and lead activities that develop and strengthen academic, physical and
social-emotional skills for an assigned group of students
- Assist students with homework assignments; explain questions and provide better
understanding of homework as needed.
- Tutor small groups of students to reinforce and follow up on learning activities
- Assists students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance to ensure all students are supported and fully engaged in learning
- Maintain daily records and complete reports concerning students incidents progress, behavior and achievements.
- Communicate student progress, homework and behavior with school staff and parents
- Serve as a role model; develop and reinforce positive social behavior; discipline students according to established procedures.
- Supervise students at all times and escort children t o and from all areas including, but not limited to classrooms, eating areas, halls, restrooms, and playground.
- Inspect and review all areas and equipment to ensure t hat all activities are conducted in a safe and non-hazardous environment.
- Assure the health and safety of students according t o standard health and safety practices
- Administer routine first aid and seek assistance for serious illness or injury situations
- Participate in the serving of snacks
- Perform cleaning functions to maintain the facility i n clean, safe and sanitary condition.
- Actively participate in professional development activities, i ncluding mandatory meetings and training programs as scheduled (includes Saturday t rainings) is required
- Collaborate with team members to improve own and others' i nstructional practices
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Programs Director and/or Program Coordinator for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the program.
