We work hand in hand with the award-winning creative teams that forge those innovative partnerships at Translation (our in-house creative advertising agency).We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Backend to join UnitedMasters! Please note that this is a Hybrid role: two days in office and three days remote.What You'll DoWork with product management and other engineering teams to design, build and operate UnitedMasters’ current and next-generation products including, order/subscriptions, royalty payments, and the artist services application. Take the lead on major projects that impact the most important goals of the organization.Understand the platform needs of other functional areas, and provide design and development guidance as required.Understand the needs of users and build products that are intuitive and easy to use.Break down complex product tasks into iterative milestones with a focus on rapid experimentation.Advocate for best practices to produce reliable, maintainable, and fault-tolerant software.Help design system architectures to improve performance and scalability.Mentor other engineers and help build a high-performance engineering team.Lead by example in raising the bar on engineering practices and code quality.Participate in our cross-functional on-call rotation, responding to incidents, tuning alerts, and contributing to our repository of runbooks.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.Ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to designers, support, and other engineersStrong understanding of computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrievalExperience architecting data storage layers in SQL and no SQL stores.Expertise in concepts like web services, SOA, RPC (GraphQL, REST, gRPC, Thrift) and API design.Good knowledge of common algorithms, data structures and design patterns.Ability to take ambiguous requirements in complex domains and distill them down into actionable tasksExperience diagnosing root causes of and contributing to the resolution of production outages.Minimum Qualifications8+ years of experience building scalable web apps with Python, Node, or similar technologies -- e.g., Ruby, Go, C, or Java.Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, related field or equivalent related professional experience                                   Preferred QualificationsExperience with Python web frameworks such as Flask & Django. Experience with relational databases, especially Postgres.Experience with document stores (MongoDB, DocumentDB).Experience designing and building web applicationsA passion for music and genuine curiosity about the inner workings of the music industryAbout UnitedMasters, Inc.UnitedMasters Inc
