The Role at a Glance:

This role provides leadership, direction and functional expertise on complex projects/initiatives related to the organization’s efforts to achieve growth through reinsurance, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. They will lead reviews to determine feasibility of possible mergers and evaluate the potential impact on the corporation’s growth and profitability accurately and comprehensively.

What you'll be doing:

  • Provides strategic direction to build and enhance the capability for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.

  • Contributes to the establishment of organizational goals, objectives, and operating procedures of the M&A functional area.

  • Ensures the M&A functional area meets all objectives pertaining to quality, compliance, regulations, productivity, customer service, budget, and project management.

  • Contributes to the development of M&A operational plans.

  • Provides M&A expertise to strategically drive improved financial and business results.

  • Evaluates and interprets highly complex economic trends and conditions which affect the financial services industry to contribute to short-term and long-term M&A policies and plans.

  • Executes the evaluation process of the organization's opportunities for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.

  • Leads execution of M&A project management processes including due diligence, financial planning, scoping, closing, and integration.

  • Leads thorough evaluation process of new business/acquisition opportunities through analysis of the target company’s technology, business strategy, human resources, and other complex available data to identify synergies & potential risks.

  • Participates in and contributes to deal execution, negotiating business terms and works with legal counsel to finalize contracts.

  • Liaises between cross-functional teams to execute deals and leads the transition from deals to integrated business operations.

  • Participates as needed on Lincoln committees (e.g., Asset Liability, Risk, Product, etc.), providing functional expertise.

  • Directs, establishes, and implements priorities, performance goals, and objectives to ensure departmental results for their assigned area(s).

  • Directs and evaluates departmental performance and takes appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards for assigned area(s).

  • Builds organizational capability within their assigned area(s).

What we’re looking for:


  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) (Minimum Required)

  • 10+ Years experience in M&A, reinsurance, business development, finance or related function directly aligned to the specific duties for this role, incl 3+ years of managerial, strategy, and/or demonstrated leadership experience influencing management/critical stakeholders (Required)


  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret both internal and external documents such as general media/publications, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, policies, proposals, and standard operating procedures.

  • Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations.

  • Demonstrates ability to communicate knowledgeably and credibly with senior management and internal constituents.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement processes improvements.

  • Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative style.

  • Demonstrates strong project management leadership skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines.

  • Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among management, colleagues and peers; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Successfully completes regulatory and job training requirements.

  • Travel Amount: up to 50%
