Senior Software Test Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Software Test Engineer at Client is responsible for verifying software data elements related to antimicrobial assays and consumable diagnostic products. This role involves writing and maintaining test protocols, documenting results, and testing data tools interfacing with ClientLaboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). The Software Test Engineer will have a strong background in software test practices, good documentation practices, and a history of working with tools used in regulated medical device product development.

The position is part of the Development Science functional group (R&D) and reports to the Data Science Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a cross-functional team and is passionate about building world-class biotechnology solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Test Protocol Development: Work closely with Development Science associates, software engineers, subject matter experts, and other testers to develop comprehensive Test Protocols that cover the full scope of software and data requirements.
  • Test Execution and Results Management: Set up and configure computers and instruments to execute Test Protocols. Capture test results and confirm that product and data requirements are met to ensure the successful development and release of new/updated antimicrobial assays in the software product.
  • Collaboration and Cross-Functional Work: Collaborate with data scientists, biostatisticians, microbiologists, and other stakeholders to verify and validate data processing tools.
  • Test Process Improvement: Build upon existing testing modules, procedures, and protocols to improve and streamline test activities. Recommend and implement more automated testing approaches.
  • Independent Learning: Work as a self-motivated and independent learner within a cross-functional team. Become proficient in antimicrobial assays and their integration into consumable and software systems.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Software Engineering, or Data Science.
Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience in tools validation and verification for non-product software integration, or
  • 2+ years of experience in software verification testing of customer products, particularly in the medical device industry.
  • 3+ years of experience in Python scripting.
Preferred Qualifications

Skills & Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with LIMS systems.
  • Knowledge of FDA Design Controls for medical devices.
  • Strong understanding of software testing best practices.
  • Background in clinical microbiology and familiarity with antimicrobial agents (e.g., antibiotics like Penicillin).
  • Experience with DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with HP-ALM or similar requirements and Test Definition/Tracing management systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a lab-based environment with equipment setup and test execution.
  • Comfortable working in a regulated medical device environment.
