Merchandising Specialist

BASIC PURPOSE: The primary purpose of the Merchandising Specialist position is to be fully responsible for item integrity. This position will work closely with the Category Management Team to execute strategic initiatives through data management, analysis, and cross-functional collaboration. The Merchandising Specialist will manage item set up, item maintenance, and item integrity process improvement development. The Merchandising Specialist will work directly with category managers to develop and implement projects that will drive category optimization.


   Item Maintenance

  • Maintain item data integrity within the Love’s pricebook systems at the direction of the Category Manager.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of retail pricing, cost, and item information setup.
  • Manage promotions across all stages of planning, setup, implementation, and troubleshooting with guidance from the Category Management team
  • Oversee daily reporting and resolve reporting discrepancies related to item setup

  Support Category Managers

  • Perform Ad-hoc data analysis for category performance at the request of the Category Manager
  • Present and collaborate in weekly financial presentations with the Category Managers
  • Collaborate with the Category Managers to develop change initiatives and strategies for each category
  • Manage and maintain vendor records within the pricebook application
  • Assist the Category Manager in the identification and execution of category optimization by analyzing key metrics related to product selection, pricing, promotional strategy, and location within the sales floor.

        Support Operations

  • Respond to and resolve store level merchandising help-desk tickets
  • Execute strategies and initiatives within Love’s systems to limit potential impacts to Operations
  • Perform Ad-hoc data analysis at the request of the field merchandising team
  • Other duties assigned as needed


  • Education:
    • HS Diploma or equivalent required
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Experience:
    • 0-2 years of work experience preferred
    • Experience in Retail preferred
    • Experience with technical developments or implementation a plus


  • Skills:
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookup)
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
    • Ability to make quick, proactive resolutions
    • Ability to multi-task in a complex and changing environment
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Scheduling flexibility
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision
