Enterprise Products Partners L.P. is one of the largest publicly traded partnerships and a leading North American provider of midstream energy services to producers and consumers of natural gas, NGLs, crude oil, refined products and petrochemicals. Our services include: natural gas gathering, treating, processing, transportation and storage; NGL transportation, fractionation, storage and import and export terminals; crude oil gathering, transportation, storage and terminals; petrochemical and refined products transportation, storage and terminals; and a marine transportation business that operates primarily on the United States inland and Intracoastal Waterway systems. The partnership’s assets include approximately 50,000 miles of pipelines; 260 million barrels of storage capacity for NGLs, crude oil, refined products and petrochemicals; and 14 billion cubic feet of natural gas storage capacity.

The Commercial Representative is responsible for handling day-to-day marketing and customer-facing commercial activities for Enterprise Marine Services LLC (“EMS”).  The Commercial Representative should be a motivated self-starter with excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills, an understanding of the inland marine transportation industry and tank barge market, and a vested interest in EMS’s commercial success. The Commercial Representative is expected to be a proficient communicator and to develop and foster meaningful professional relationships with EMS customers, vendors, brokers, and other industry stakeholders to maintain and further grow EMS’s inland marine transportation business. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop mechanisms to track and report historical and current volumes and revenues by customer.
  • Develop and analyze KPIs (key performance indicators) on a customer-by-customer basis using an operations database and other EMS tools.
  • Support monthly financial review and reporting by providing key input on asset utilization, revenue and cost projections, market trends, and customer needs. 
  • Support the development of a marketing database that includes customer contacts, customer fact sheets, and other information relevant to existing and potential customers, including but not limited to historical trade lanes and customer markets, cargo and transportation needs, and opportunities for growth.
  • Prepare yearly budgets projecting revenue, anticipated costs, and asset utilization.
  • Update and run budget models for various purposes (i.e., new build economics).
  • Update and analyze forecasting models for periodic reporting of financial performance and changes in short term expectations.
  • Monitor and track performance and perform detailed variance analysis on a monthly basis.
  • Recognize and analyze industry trends including term and spot transportation rate and utilization metrics.
  • Model and analyze profitability of equipment by category (i.e., towing vessels and barges).
  • Provide support and analytical input on executive decisions relative to equipment utilization and optimization.
  • Proficient in or a willingness to learn the process of calculating barge charter rates from various load points to various discharge points.
  • Contact existing and prospective customers about equipment availabilities and opportunities.
  • Take initiative to identify and pursue new business lines and opportunities.
  • Identify prospective customers and new opportunities for existing customers through the use of business directories, by following leads from existing clients, and by attending various industry functions.
  • Monitor market conditions to stay ahead of market issues and changes in the industry.
  • Able to review and negotiate contract details and to interface with various internal corporate functions, including but not limited to operations, credit, executive management, and legal.
  • Perform administrative duties, such as preparing sales reports, filing expense account reports, and assisting with account receivable collections.
  • Willingness to travel to contact and visit customers.

The successful candidate should meet the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelors’ degree is required.  A degree in Marine Management, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Engineering, or other related discipline is preferred.
  • Understanding of refined products, crude oil, and NGL storage and transportation industry is preferred.
  • 1 year experience in the marine industry, engineering, accounting, or marketing analysis is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, specifically MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, is required.
  • Knowledge of HELM Marine and SharePoint software is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Excel modeling to forecast supply/demand trends is required.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, negotiating, and understanding marine transportation contracts is required.
  • Work experience demonstrating strong analytical and interpersonal skills is important.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Superior written, communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare concise, informative, and convincing presentations.
  • An ability to analyze data and present findings is required.
  • An understanding of basic accounting principles is preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and demonstrate a common sense approach to problem solving.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with internal and external customers at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and effective time management skills to develop knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill job responsibilities in an independent and thorough manner.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically is required.
