Magna New Mobility in Troy, MI is seeking a highly motived Sr. Engineer, Embedded Systems to be a part of the engineering team with focus on architecting embedded systems. Working knowledge in automotive telematic control units (TCU), Teleoperation, and antenna optimization are desirable. Must be a passionate all-rounder equally capable of developing and integrating new embedded controls solutions, providing support to existing programs, to being hands-on to investigate and resolve issues on conventional and new mobility platforms.
The ideal candidate will drive the conception, integration, and development of embedded systems for new mobility applications ranging from middle-mile to last-mile solutions. Must be comfortable working with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, agile engineering development environment where they will be able to exercise freedom to innovate and explore new methods and solutions.

Major Responsibilities
- Develop hardware solutions from scratch or through modification of existing systems.
- Support Testing & Validation department by specifying test requirements and acceptance criteria, and ensuring tests are completed on time and to specification.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to interpret vehicle and/or system level requirements and to translate them into scalable rapid prototyped controls systems for a wide variety of applications.
- Confer with other project engineers to clarify or resolve problems and develop designs.
- Maintain project schedules by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, estimating timing needs and hurdles, sequencing project elements, and resolving problems.
- Prepare and present project progress reports.
- Demonstrate sustained innovation and creativity leading to significant project accomplishments without direct technical supervision
- Establish and maintain an effective system of communications throughout the organization.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer, Software, or Electrical engineering.
- Strong technical background to perform engineering calculations, simulations, and analysis, as well as strong communication skills to explain technical issues clearly and effectively to a non-technical audience.
- Knowledge of automotive functional safety and security
- Knowledge of vehicle communication such as CAN / Automotive Ethernet (TCP/IP)
- Knowledge of low and high-volume manufacturing processes and assembly methods
- Ability to read, understand and create diagrams, charts and schematics, as well as software architecture, software design, and software development documents and test specifications.
- Knowledge of software development life cycle.
- Minimum 5+ years' experience in automotive embedded software development including working with hardware platforms.
- Significant and extensive experience in embedded system architecture design, H/W implementation design, analysis, troubleshooting, and testing
- Experience with architecting software for embedded systems including dealing with hardware platforms.
- Experience with bootloaders and designing reflash protocols over CAN, SPI, I2C and Serial interfaces for single and dual-processor architectures.
- Experience with integration and configuration of Vector CANbedded software and Vector Flash Bootloader.
- Hands on experience in developing and building proof of concepts for feasibility assessments.
- Ability to anticipate roadblocks, diagnose problems and generate effective solutions.
- Ability to solve problems by developing innovative out-of-box solutions.
- Willing and flexible to work on systems outside of core experience.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use hands to finger, handle, and feel. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and have adequate mobility to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Responsible for working in compliance with the provisions of the Health and Safety Act as well as any rules or standards otherwise specified by OSHA or MIOSHA or any other government regulations. Expected to exercise caution in all work activities and report any unsafe conditions, injuries, or near misses to the appropriate supervisor.
- Domestic and international travel will be required up to 10% of the time.
