Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Perioperative Services develops implements and evaluates programs to meet the identified needs of perioperative staff. The Perioperative Educator is responsible for the maintenance of credentialing and competency records on all personnel within the division and for the ensurance of renewals; also assumes responsibility for implementing new programs and assure continuity of patient care on their units. This nurse provides orientation, inservice and continuing education programs for the nursing and ancillary staff within the department. The educator participates in evaluating nursing practice and recommends appropriate changes to the Director.

Minimum Qualifications

•         Education

o   Graduate of a professional school of nursing.

o   BSN required.

o   Masters degree preferred.

•         Experience

o   Minimum of five years clinical operating room nursing experience required.

o   Previous staff development/in-service/classroom teaching experience required.

•         Licensure and/or Certification

o   Currently licensed to practice professional nursing in Massachusetts.

o   BLS healthcare provider required.

o   Maintains CNOR status.

•         Skills

o   Demonstrated leadership ability, strong interpersonal and communication skills.

o   Strong teaching and mentoring skills.

o   Computer proficiency including Word, Excel, Powerpoint.

o   Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

o   Ability to maintain confidential information
