We are committed to delivering safe, reliable service that gets our customers to their destinations on time and we’re looking to hire talented folks with a love of learning to make it all possible.Works closely with internal Rail departments and other NJ TRANSIT departments to develop and implement strategies for improving safety, reducing costs and maintaining/improving service reliability and efficiency.Works with the Capital Planning & Programs and Finance departments to ensure adequate capital and operating funds are available for safety and state-of-good-repair requirements and to meet other department and company objectives. Provides input, and makes recommendations on corporate policy (e.g., safety, fares, service, capital investment).Leads special projects for Rail Operations, including development and deployment of rail service and field support for major events (e.g., sporting and entertainment events, conventions, conferences).Fosters teamwork and cross-organizational communication to make recommendations to the VP/GM to ensure safety and maximum operational readiness. Directs the implementation throughout the organization of new and ongoing initiatives.Assists and participates in agreement negotiations with labor unions.Formulates positions, and represents Rail Operations at meetings with stakeholders, including the Federal Transit Administration, Federal Railroad Administration, commuter groups, business leaders and elected officials.Leads discussion and meetings with NJ TRANSIT senior management and subordinate Rail Operations staff on matters, including employee orientation, communications campaigns, procurement matters, crew optimization and service recovery.Prepares management reports, especially monitoring and analysis of on-time-performance, safety metrics and other key metrics. Conducts specials assignments, business reviews and/or investigations as directed by the VP/GM.Handles human resources and personnel matters for Rail Operations.Supervises charter operations and special train/car movements for private owners.KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Planning, Business Administration or related area or equivalent.Six (6) or more years of broad staff, operations and/or analytic experience within a transit/railroad agency. Excellent written and verbal skills and demonstrated leadership experience required. One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.At NJ Transit you will enjoy a competitive salary and excellent benefits package:Comprehensive Family Health Insurance - Prescription, Dental, VisionFlexible Spending AccountLife InsurancePaid Leave401(a), 401(k), Retirement Plans - up to 9% matchTuition AssistanceQualified Transportation Expense Plan (QTE) At NJ Transit we support and depend upon the diversity of our staff. NJ Transit is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
