Position Description:
Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc., one of the largest metals distributors in the US, is currently seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for our Houston, TX market. The successful candidate will report to the Operations Manager.

This EHS Manager will provide leadership for environmental programs and waste optimization for our manufacturing facility, and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations. Collaborating with Health & Safety Coordinators to plan, direct, and implement environmental HS programs to ensure a positive, safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Provides leadership in developing, implementing and managing EHS policies, programs, and practices, and files regulatory reports in compliance with the local, state, and federal agencies.
• Ensure recording keeping, and manuals for these programs (including but not limited to): OSHA, DOT, EPA, and Local Emergency Planning Coordinators.
• Plan and implement safety programs, train factory supervisors and employees to meet standards and to enhance the company’s safety culture.
• Lead and implement safety orientation, employee safety training, drug and alcohol testing and the company’s contractor safety program.
• Conducts regular inspections of facilities to detect existing or potential safety hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
• Lead emergency response to environmental, structural, and employee incidents, which includes the investigation of all incidents and injuries from initial report to closure.
• Drive continuous improvement in our safety culture while working towards exceeding site-specific safety goals.
• Administrative duties will include, but not be limited to; electronically filing required monthly trainings, administering online training, COI/CSA management, Tier II reporting, SDS compliance, and OSHA online reporting.
• The ideal candidate will be engaging, deeply involved in operations, and face-to-face interactions.
• This position requires some overnight travel and the ability to respond to safety needs after hours.

Experience:
• Excellent knowledge/experience with MS Office
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other federal and state agencies.
• Ability to coach, train and be an effective team leader.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Possess strong discipline to provide accurate and timely data
• Impeccable attention to detail, effective problem solving skills.
• Able to thrive in a fast pace environment.
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field (or)
• Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience, with a minimum of 3 years in an environmental, health, and safety role.
• Must be self-directed, professional and dependable.
• Demonstrate dependable work habits and schedule.
