The Implementation Manager supports the VP, Operations by providing professional assistance, implementation ownership, project management, recommendations on business need, and operations management across a broad range of activities. This position is responsible for providing Subject Matter Expertise in areas including project scope definition, risk identification, project methodology, resource allocation, facilitation, timeline and key milestone management, Value Based Care implementations, and other areas of expertise based on established project management techniques. 



The Implemenation Manager is also responsible for providing project coordination across a very complex matrixed organization with multiple businesses units, teams, and functions (IT, business, finance, etc.). They will complete analytical assessment of business problems, monitoring organizational performance, and identification of risk to operational plans and projects. Also will develop and present reports and status updates to support initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:




  • Leads large, complex projects to achieve key business objectives across multiple stakeholder groups across WellMed, OptumCare, OptumHealth, and other parts of the UnitedHealth Group enterprise

  • Oversees, instructs, and otherwise functionally directs technical and operational staff in order to achieve desired end-results on complex problems regarding implementation initiatives

  • Provides subject matter expertise, project ownership, and operational support to business partners on: project management techniques, WellMed specific practices and operations, and Value Based Care best practices

  • Partners with executive leaders in the development of organizational objectives and short and long term goals

  • Participates in the development of business strategy and leads execution of various initiatives therein

  • Coaches, mentors, and provides feedback to others. Acts as a resource to others with less experience

  • Maintains project and process knowledge bank to support best practice identification and implementation

  • Collaborates across across business units, departments, and teams to manage and mitigate risk forecast project progress, and resolve issues

  • Acts as a liaison between internal and external teams to help steer work stream communications to ensure response integrity

  • Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business

  • Leads functional and segment teams through all planning and execution phases of implementation projects, at times with competing agendas, resources, and priorities

  • Partners with departmental leadership and staff to identify/define performance planning/measures and organizational design based on emerging industry trends

  • Influences senior leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches that may have segment-wide impact

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or a related field required. (4 additional years of comparable work experience beyond the required years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree)

  • 4+ years of implementation project management

  • 2+ decision support, data analysis, or healthcare operations experience 

  • Experience working in other project management tools and platforms (e.g. Quickbase)

  • Experience working across a large complex matrixed organization

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook

  • Proven ability to successfully conceptualize an initiative, develop a plan, and execute the plan through implementation 

  • Ability to interact one-on-one and consult with all levels of executive leadership



Preferred Qualifications:




  • Masters in Health Administration, Finance, Public Health or Business Administration

  • PMP Certification or similar certification, or willingness to invest in this certification in the first year of employment 

  • Value Based Care experience

  • Experience managing both IT and Business initiatives

  • Knowledge of Health Care Industry and/or experience in Medicare Advantage Part D (MAPD) operations

Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, or New York City Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada/New York City residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
